First I'd like to state that Hip-Hop is by far my favorite genre of music, however, not that stupid *Starts screaming* "I'ma kill you" type. I like to listen to soothing/jazzy rap with a message.

Now when I started Samurai Champloo the first thing I realized was clearly the opening song (rap!), Battlecry by Nujabes. While watching, I noticed all the Hip-Hop-like beats, so I immediately got the OSTs. At first, I believed that Nujabes was the one rapping in the opening, but it then occurred to me after listening to the two parts of the OST he created, that he is actually a Japanese producer. And a fantastic one at that. After some Google-ing and some Youtube-ing I figured out that he actually has a lot of respect amongst American Hip-Hop fans, and even makes the beats for plenty of underground rappers, who aren't the greatest, but are sure as hell better than those crap artists they play on the radio these days.

Nujabes' creativity is remarkable, and I can just listen to his instrumentals repetitively. Is there anyone else who shares my opinion that Nujabes is one of the greatest producers, if not musicians, currently in the world?

"Modal Sound" is an amazing album if you've never heard it. The stuff he does with Shing02 & members of CYNE is phenomenal!

yea i've been an avid jun seba (nujabes) listener for the last two years and whenever he comes out with something new it just blows my mind.

from his samurai champloo contributions to his collaboration work on modal soul and metaphorical music he never ceases to amaze me.

nujabes fans should also checkout his work on his hydeout production collection cds.

Absolutely! I just got the first and second Champloo cd's and am extremely pleased with just about every track. I consider the whole OST to be more of a jazz/blues/funk blend rather than hip-hop. I guess I have a bit of trouble thinking of hip-hop with out lyrics as being anything other than Jazz.

Though not all tracks are specifically nujabes, there does seem to be a primal beat to all of the tracks that just makes me want to move and dance about the room. It may be that primal beat that makes it more hip-hop than jazz. Whatever it should be called, the combination of beat and hook moves me. Sorry, that sounds cheesy. Laughing

One thing I found to be surprising about the Champloo OSTs is that they are actually pretty good background study music if played fairly low, except for the few songs that just grab me and pull me into the music, specifically YOU and SHIKI NO UTA. Sorry, I haven't experienced much of nujabes other works. Yet.

Nujabes is incredible. I really need to pick up both Modal Soul and Hydeout Productions 2nd Collection sometime, both are just amazing albums.
