Man, Hideaki Anno really likes that shot of a line of tanks shooting something big isn't it?

Quote: | Higuchi promised that this will be the scariest Godzilla yet, quoting the horrors of the real world, like 9/11, the March 11 tsunami, and subsequent Fukushima nuclear crisis having stripped the the world of its innocence. |
Er, yeah, was about to ask, "What's with the red Godzilla? Is he headed for a Meltdown again, like in Destroyah?"
And...sounds like the answer's yes.

I always wonder how the Japanese can crank live action films out in relatively short amounts of time compared to Western films. Maybe its the lack of massive amounts of CG. Like, western films take one or two years in pre-production, seven months to a year in production, and 6 months to a year in post-production, and then released a few months after they're completed. Japanese films spend all of one month in pre-production, five months in production, then like two or three months in post-production, then release. We even get sequels to Japanese films faster. Some take longer to get off the ground(like Attack on Titan), but those seem like rare cases.

Man, when hearing that they wanted a bigger Godzilla than the newest American one (which in itself is massive) and seeing the design of his head I was worried.....but not anymore. That looks awesome and I'll be first in line to buy it. Looks like we're going back to radioactive seeping through skin Godzilla.

Dude, it's all the paper work before the movie going into production, usually a high budget film takes about 3-6 months to film (depending on the director). It's the script drafts and approval that take forever, some times even years.
And there is the other part of the problem. American films are announced that they are in the works from the script phase, where as Japanese movies are announced once the production takes place.

Dear Jeebus, that was a terrible trailer. I still love the early Godzilla era of films, but the last two decades have not been kind to the Big G. It's depressing how, after so many years, only the 90s Gamera films are not laughingstock material.
After comparing against the Gamera concept trailer for Gamera 2017, this new Godzilla trailer is even more depressing.

Hopefully it will have been worth the wait.

And? JSDF thinks it can stop it, the heads watch it on a screen and it just stands there. "The Godzilla only Japan can make." Sure, it's Godzilla 1984 only done in 2016... oh yeah, that's what the other guy did. The sky's a lot less red this time? I guess that's an improvement?
That head really reminded me of the parasite from Brain Damage with it open mouth of needle teeth, especially at 18 secs. That was a puppet, I don't know what this is.
That tail though...Oh.... oh man, the tail is an EVA plug, isn't it? Anno, what the...

Judging by the trailer I can determine that humans are already hogging up the screen time. Godzilla hasn't done much beyond walk and roar while showing off burn marks (you'd think his regeneration would cover that). I look forward to the movie, but not so much Anno fans comparing debris in explosions to Oda Nobunaga's gun collection or something (I've been to Evageeks and have friends there, they can and will do it).

I liked the trailer. It didn't blow my mind, but I expected something average and instead I'm now hopeful it turns out to be decent. I also liked the theme song.
I don't really understand the praise the gamera trilogy gets, I like kaiju films and I've seen the trilogy recently and it's really mediocre. I appreciated the good intentions of the film-makers to make the story as grounded as possible, but the pacing was horrid, the fights sucked in more ways than one and the actors were as bad as the usual standard most godzilla movies feature (if not worse, Seagal's daughter is especially awful in them).

I still really don't like this Godzilla's design, but it does look pretty hella in those two scenes of motion. His tiny arms in comparison to the rest of him bother me the most... as well as his face...
Ready af to watch this tho. I was thinking about Meltdown Godzilla too reading article, but someone already mentioned it, so. Yeah.

Man maybe it's because my wife is in the military and I am around the military a lot / immersed in that culture - but whenever I see something "fleshy" like a Godzilla shrugging off tank rounds and rockets I just sort of shake my head at how bizarre it is.
