Oh god, I remember that arc airing on Toonami. It just wouldn't end... then they came back for a couple filler episodes, and here they are again! They won't go away! DX

It's a way to chew up some episodes without having to worry about it affecting actual character development. Also, I think the type of humor these sorts of things represents is better appreciated in Japan than it is here. While occasionally funny, the first arc with these guys (which was expanded from the manga, IIRC) was something I could've done without. The only part of it that I remember fondly is Sonny Straight channeling Don King when Luffy had the fro on. That was freaking hilarious -- most everything else, not so much. |

Yeah, I guess Toei thinks that they're as beloved as Team Rocket. In truth, no one really liked the arc or the characters. It had its moments (Zoro and Sanji teaming up and Afro Luffy), but Oda himself said that it was essentially an in-manga filler. Made even worse by the fact that the anime drags its poo-covered butt across the carpet by making them have a rematch, then making Foxy show up in a filler arc right afterwards.
Did Toei forget that if it really wants to make a filler arc, there's a different pirate crew they could use that everyone wants to see? The Buggy Pirates. Come on guys. Who doesn't like Buggy-sama? |

Buggy wouldn't work since the last few chapters implied that he's going to play a fairly important role later on. Toei probably doesn't want to mess with anything that might end up being important. That's why they love Foxy. |

There's another thing! There's the cover arcs. For some reason, Toei thinks its Taboo to animate those. But even if for some reason, they sold their souls under the condition that they wouldn't do that, the least they can do is give us filler about someone we care about. Vivi? The Skypiea guys? Water 7 citizens/Franky Family? What's Rayleigh been up to? How about Perona or HERACLES'N? Han(d)cock? Ivankov? Seriously, Toei! |

I don't. I pretty much loathe them. I especially hated how Buggy was used during the Marineford War as some sort of retarded comedy relief during a pretty nasty event. Really, Buggy could DIAF and I wouldn't spend a moment mourning his passing. |

Oh... um, I guess that's a justified opinion. I dunno. They were gonna put comedy filler in there anyway to pad out the anime. I'm glad they used him as opposed to... something worse.

People are complaining about Toei reusing these guys but they haven't been in the anime in years, last time they showed up was for a small two episode thing after Thriller Bark.

It's a tv movie for the Saturday night timeslot, like the "Episodes of". |

This is not the first One Piece Winter Special. Last year winter had the "Episode of Chopper" special edition that commemorated the series 15th year of airing.
I believe Toei is grabbing that spot to make every year from now on another special. If that is the case it will be incredible: Anime every week, 2 full length specials per year, and every 2 to 3 years we will get a full length theatrical Film. About this Special, I really looking for it. I loved the Foxy arc and is later appearances in fillers were good. This special will be cool. Also, the Noro Noro beam returns! |
