Anyone who watches anime and listen to jpop/rock/hiphop know that they use popular mainstream songs a lot in anime to help boost the band. but a lot of times it doesn't go with the anime and it just ends up as pretty animation (or paned over pictures!) to a song. I just noticed that happens sometimes.

Example, happy people from Bleach. not only that but the time they used that ending WASN'T a happy time in the story but....it really didn't suit it. I would expect a more younger audience anime or a brighter non shonen anime to sport that song.

I know im about to talk about holy ground by saying this bad thing about Eva's fly me to moon. The ending song just didn't fit to me. Plus the animation in it was...okay. But thats worth a whole other thread on OP/ED animation.

The first ending for Shaman King, Trust You, is rather incongruous. I love the song, and it fits really well with the earlier episodes, but eventually the series gets to the point where the episode will end with someone dying or being on the verge of death or some other serious situation, and then this happy fun song starts playing with an animation of Yoh, Manta, and Amidamaru chasing around in the sunshine. Kinda throws it off.

Wasn't FMTTM supposed to tie in with Anno's original vision of the Angels?

The first OP of Honey And Clover (the one with the stop motion animated food) was pretty crazy. I guess it had some related imagery, but the first time I saw it I was a bit WTF'd.

While I know little about the Inuyasha opening themes I know the ending themes pretty well and I think that most of the ending themes, with the exception of Fukai Mori and Shinjitsu no Uta (I'm no DAI fan, but the atmosphere was perfect for the feudal era anime), did not suit the anime, especially Come. The mix was like cereal and soda and while most people would agree that it was nice music and a good anime (that's debatable, but it had it's moments) the combination struck me as odd and while I can't say the mix was terrible it was kind of.... off.

I didn't think Tell Me Why was really a good song to bring out the midevil atmosphere for Berserk. It is a decent song, though.

I didn't mind Come from Inuyasha. It fit the closing animation really well. It was actually the song that started getting me into anime songs.

I have noticed that myself as the years went on. Years ago, the song was actually tied to the anime. Ex 1: 'Jajauma ni Sasenaide' Ranma's opening song. The end of the song ended with the sings chiming 'Ranma'. Ex: Sailor Moon's opening... Moonlight Denstetsu >.< Ex 3: Fushigi Yuugi's opening, 'Itoshii Hito no Tame ni'

These days that isn't the case, definitely. Bleach and Honey & Clover do pop in to mind in that aspect.

I always wondered how they chose ending songs. Since not as many people would be watching that part. If the person was like me, I'd change the channel or take a break. Anime hyper

I guess these days it's a way to further promote the anime or promote an up and coming singer/group.

P.S. Thank God for animelyrics.com because, for the life of me, I couldn't remember the song titles.

Girigiri chop is the best Detective Conan OP, but it really doesn't fit the anime well.

Gakkou no Kaidan, aka Ghost Stories' ending theme 'Sexy Sexy'. It's out of place, and kind of funny.

The OP for Shadow Star Narutaru. So Happy Happy, Joy Joy and chibi! Then the ugliness starts. Wow.

I second Rhesian. The opening sequence of Shadow Star Narutaru is completely out of tune with the series. It could hardly be any worse. The sugary harmonica, the chibi versions of characters with their cute mascots prancing about, the crayon graphics...awful, simply horrible.

Another example would be the second ending of Strawberry Panic. It kicks in just as the series is turning into a full blown melodrama and completely ruins the atmosphere of some of the later episodes. After a highly emotional scene we are greeted to some creepy paper doll versions of the singer as they sing the most happy-go-lucky song imaginable. The song itself is pretty horrible but the video makes it much worse.

Narutaru's OP may be incongruous with much of the series' content, but I don't think that's accidental. Just as the series itself deceives viewers at the beginning with its cute, fluffy, "Girl meets Magical Friend" setup, the song is part of the deception.

I agree. I almost had a heart attack the first time I saw it, cause the end of opening sequence was really surprising.

I thought so too. By that time, all episodes ended in a really sad note, then comes the upbeat ending song by Mai Nakahara (Nagisa) and Ai Shimizu (Tamao).

I felt that the opening theme for "Scrapped Princess" ("Little Wing" by JAM Project) sounded too upbeat. The lyrics matched with the story; but just how it was performed, well, it sounded like it should've been the Japanese Opening for the US "Full House" Laughing.

The ED theme for Mai-Otome, "Otome wa DO MY BEST deshou", worked for the "happy" parts of the show (less than half), but as soon as the plot thickened and the drama got heavy, it completely didn't fit the series.
