Do Rie Fu or Bonnie Pink have weird accents?

I just caught up on the Gundam Seed Destiny DVDs and immediately recognized the singer Rie Fu from the first Bleach ending credits. Part of it was her vocal quality, but an even bigger part was the way she pronounced things. Does she come from a strange part of Japan? I love how the Gundam Seed Destiny ED will randomly have her English version.

I also love Bonnie Pink's Kenshin song Rain and find her pronunciation a little interesting. She sings the wonderful, and sad ED to Gantz. I believe I read somewhere that she lived in New York at one point.

I'm really bad at picking up on accents in either language and have heard some Japanese songs (mainly Hip Hop and Rap) where the singers intentionally pronounce things differently. I've never heard either Rie Fu or Bonnie Pink talk so I don't know if this is just something about there singing style that I'm misinterpreting. Does anyone know if either of them can speak English?

Are there any other voice actors or singers from Japan that seem to have accents?

Rie Fu attends university in London, so that's probably where she gets her accent from. She's fluent in both English and Japanese.

Not sure where Bonnie Pink learned hers, though.

Rie fu lived in Maryland when she 7 to 10 years old and is attending college in London. She's fluent in english and japanese, as Patachu said. That might be why she pronounces things differently.

Bonnie Pink spent time in New York (and on a possibly unrelated noted, the Swedish countryside), but her english, while good, is sometime gramatically incorrect and sometimes very jumbled. But I think her song, "Rope Dancer", shows off her best english skills.

That is really cool news about Rie Fu. That Destiny ED is really cool in both languages. Her accent in the Japanese version of the song really is great and made her singing stand out and easily recognizable. The news about both Maryland and London is cool. I love unusual accents and find that they give singers personality. I'm really tempted to ordering both of her CDs. It's funny but I'm listening Life is like a Boat at the moment, the best way I can describe her accent is it reminds me of the equivalent of a "Southern" accent in the States. I think it has something to do with her vowels not being as sharp sounding as Japanese usually is.

It's funny how I like both of these singers since I usually lean towards the harder sounds from X-Japan or even Show-Ya. I just love the songs that Bonnie Pink and Rie Fu sing, and it is funny how all four songs are ED songs. They are not energy filled loud songs, but rather sentimental introspective ones. I really love the Gantz ED in particular.

I have also tried to catch a hint of accent from Romi Park, but as far as I can tell her Japanese is perfect. Mine is not, so I could be wrong.

She's a Japan-born Korean, so she wouldn't have an accent.

It's funny, I have been thinking the exact same thing for a while now. I knew she spent time in America and learned a lot of English that way. I figured it was probably somewhere in the south so she would have heard the drawl. I guess Maryland isn't exactly south now, though is it? But then again, I'm in Ohio which is on a northern (albeit southernmost) border of the country and we do hear a lot of southern accent even here, and some natives even talk with surprisingly strong southern accents.

Oh, well. Who knows. Her accent is interesting nonetheless, and I think it sounds brilliant and wonderful in her songs.
