My mom and dad just give me weird stares and ask things like, "What are you listening to?".
Oh well. =[ |

My parents enjoy Yoko Kanno. Mom's a Bebop fanatic, especially for the music.

I was listening to High and Mighty Color's song Pride one day and my mom was listening to the beginning and thought the voice was pretty but when the part where all the guitars and things came in, she left the room.

Mostly FLCL OST and Honey and Clover OST here. So people who enjoy fun rock and nice pop music like my parents enjoy them.

My parents are sort of used to my 'odd' taste in music, although my taste in music is also rather odd when compared to other otaku. My mom is a huge fan of Asian Kung-Fu Generation and Home Made Kazoku, and she has at least one CD by each of them on her iPod. I guess my parents prefer that I listen to Japanese music because the lyrics (at least of most of the things I have) aren't as awful as most American music nowadays, and I can't understand that much of it anyway x) I also think that anime music sounds better than a lot of other stuff out there; it just happens to be in Japanese.
There was that one time I got all teary in homeroom, though, because I had Sora no Shita, Daichi no Ue (Paku Romi, Bleach) on, and my teacher came up and asked what was wrong. I said it was the song I was listening to, and she looked at the screen of my iPod and just went "Okay..." I've also used music from the FMA and GitS: SAC soundtracks as background music for school presentations, and a few people have actually asked where I got it. I was happy to tell them :p |

My whole family does that. >.< I'm the only one who listens to Japanese Music instead of American Music. Well I listen to old American Music, though not as much as Japanese Music. |

regardless of race, you can listen to whatever genre of music you want. if your into something that happens to have a main fanbase of people not of your color or race, go ahead. this is america, you have freedom, USE IT!
but i dont really listen to much anime music besides the pillows, but as for something like an opening theme here or there, ill like that, but its not in my music collection. |

Well, I'm proud to say that after about 3 years of constant anime CD listening in the car, my parents are FINALLY starting to like it. Well, my mom at least. I'm turning her into a Gackt fan. It's so funny to hear her talking about Gackt's dog....
"You should put a picture of Bell Constantine Chappy on the CD! It'd be so cute! Awww~!" But at first, she would say things like "I feel like I'm trapped in a Japanese kids show!" I think Rumba Rumba from Slayers was on at the time. ^^; She did like the theme song for Bokutatsu Tenshi Dokoru-Chan tho...which I find strange. And she hated "1/2" from RuroKen with a fiery passion. My mom also really likes musicals recently, so I was hoping I could get her into Seramyu...but she fell asleep. Sigh. Some people just don't appreciate that kind of stuff I guess. =3 My dad just says "NO JAPANESE IN THE CAR!" or something. ><; And my ex...well he liked Tokyo Mew Mew and sung the Mew Mew Power theme at school. Until he started getting into alot of the "I can say f*** i'm so cool" songs. |

The girliefriend heard Haibane Renmei last week and called it "mellow, sweet and relaxing" She also thought it was either Wolf's Rain or Firefly. Maybe it's cause i play the mellow instrumental stuff, but so far she liked Haibane and Wolf's Rain.

Is it bad that I can't remember my parent's reactions to when I started listening to Japanese (primarily anime) music? Yeah, it's been that long...
In fact, they were more surprised to find CDs of Styx, Bachman Turner Overdrive, and Meatloaf in my car when visiting than weird Japanese CDs. I specifically remember my mom saying "You listen to that?" I had one girlfriend who liked anime, so we could listen to soundtracks of series we each liked, which was alright. Two other girlfriends I had didn't like it, so I never played it around them, whcih was okay because while I may not have a versitile library, I have fairly versitile tastes (well, sometimes...). funny thing is my parents can hear me singing zutto kimi ni soba de (flame of recca) right now.. I think they've gotten used to it.. I can't keep the music to myself.. They only reacted once.. They asked me if I even understand what I'm singing and if I'm sure that I'm singing the right lyrics.. I said I understand most of it and I'm pretty sure the lyrics are correct.. nothing more than that.. They're probably ignoring me right now..

I was playing Nausicaa main theme until one of my brother's friend came in. He gave me a weird look and said * That sounds depressing.* o.0
I was like *wtf get used to it *, slapped him, and he walked out laughing which was weird. Then I was playing DN Angel - Whenever in full blast, because I like the guitars bit and solo, my dad came up and shouted *what the hell is that?* and my mom was like * what kind of girls would listen to that kind of music? * Bleh my parents were never into rock/metal..they like traditional chinese operas -.-[/b][/i] |

Always got a negative reaction, but I've gotten "you're weird" from my family for a loooooong time.
Got em back though, instead of a dj at my wedding, we prepared a set of CD's to be played - I snuck a track from Dominon Tank Police II - an instrumental, but still, I told them I'd get my anime music in the reception. |

With my interest in anime, I don't think that my parents were surprised when I became interested in Japanese music as well. But unless I find something that I would like them to listen to in particular, my parents do not really care about my obsession with Japanese music in any way. However, my mother does enjoy the Evangelion version of Fly Me to the Moon featured on the first original soundtrack and Yasashii Yoake from .hack//SIGN.
Most of my classmates seem surprised to discover that I like Asian music, but considering I am half-Black and half-Asian, it shouldn't be too much of a surprise. Many of them are usually too curious about my taste in music to be able to make a judgement. |

It's a bit intriguing, my parent have never said anything about me listening to anime themes, compositions and other J-Pop/J-Rock music.
I don't think anyone really cares much, the only time I got any negative tilted comments was when I started playing Japanese music on my school radio program. And the comments came from my friends who actually listen to Japanese music. And they don't understand it either well at least in theory of course you can find lyrics and such. My background is Trinidad & Tobago so I guess it is a bit odd. As for my parents, they can't really say anything anyways since they listen to Chutney which none of us can understand. I listen to various types of genres anyways. Rap, Hip-Hop, R&B, J-Rock, J-Pop, Soca, Reggae and Japanese Orchestral. |
