I thought the pacing of Wolf Children was kind of wonky. It spent way too long on wolf-dad when all that stuff is really just prologue to Hana having to raise children on her own. The middle part of the movie is a kinda trite "isn't rural living so lovely" thing and for a movie about a mother raising children on her own, the mother is hardly to be seen in the last third of the movie, although that's the part I liked best because the story of spoiler[the siblings growing apart] is the most interesting part of the whole thing.

spoiler[Given that the mother was already hounded by the child protection services once, and that local townsfolk knew of Ame's existence in that area, won't it be suspicious when he just ends up missing one day?] Even if that's not the point of the film and it not something one should even ponder because "parenthood is so hard bawwwww", it's a point that stuck with me and I can't shake it. I think it kind of screwed up the emotional climax for me, but whatever, the film's still pretty good and I think I liked it on an emotional level more than Summer Wars. Definitely worth checking out, but I do hear you on the character designs, especially the mom. She looked like a frog for half the film with this weird angled smile and eyes set far too apart. Kind of creepy at times.

As much as I enjoy and favor fanservice and ecchi material, I agree with the negativity on Maken-ki. It just was not a fun show to sit through. The upcoming second season, however, should change that entirely if the recent OVA was any clue. Ditch the plot, focus on the ecchi = solid performance.

There is something I don't get about maken-ki. if the school is finally becoming co-ed for the first time, then how were the two adult male teachers part of the original maken-ki if it was a girls only school?

I also could have done without one particular scene at the beginning of the film where Hana is about to make out with wolf dad.

Was he in wolf form during that scene?

It was pretty much a near-yiff.

Girls only schools can still have male teachers, and the opposite with female teachers at guys only schools.

Yes. It also makes me wonder if she did the dirty with him in that form too, full wolf genital anatomy included.

Since ecchi shows seem to be the bread and butter of Funimation, should not they change their motto to:

YOU SHOULD BE WATCHING STUPID BOOB SHOWS
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
In all seriousness, I am glad to see Wolf Children in the Shelf Worthy category. I will check it out, hopefully legally, before committing to buying a disc copy.

yes, but at the time, they were students, not teachers

@getchman

Do not try to use logic on Manken-Ki it will just drive you crazy. Yes as you note, the male teacher did say something about when they were in school together. For all we know he was female then. That would be less of a stretch than some other ideas in the show we were supposed to accept.

Unfortunately you cannot unwatch a show.

Dissin' the god that is Paul McCartney? For shame, what god forsaken blasphemy is this?! (kidding, of course...)

The result is a bit awkward and bizarre—the wolf children retain their human hairstyles, which begs the question whether bystanders find anything curious about wolves with bishonen locks.

Hmm. Funny I never thought of that. The movie is well-done in so many ways I don't really have any nitpicks, not like I do with Summer Wars (although I technically like that movie too).

As you can tell from the cover alone, with the exception of like, two characters, all of the chicks in the show have RIDICULOUS TITS. We're not just talking size (although size-wise, I'd compare them to a winter melon or a small cat), we're also talking about proportions and lack of anatomical know-how. There are scenes and splash art alike where the girls' nipples are inches away from where any woman's nipples should be. It doesn't matter how big or small your breasts are; nipples can't just migrate wherever they want to. Sometimes the girls' breasts aren't even the same size and differ by one or two cup sizes. I mean, for a show about boobs, you'd think they'd put some extra attention into the boobs. But no, even the animators were like, “F my life” and just willy-nilly slapped on flesh-tone between hard pounds of whisky.

Reading this alone totally made my evening!

as I told a friend, watch makenki only if you want camel toes, because that is literally the only thing it has to offer over other fanservice shows. and even then the quality adn the designs really put it down, thankfully ou can watch the specials/mini ovas to know what maken ki is about and you save yourself of watching one episode.

the manga is a slightly different matter, because it has some fighting scenes , better fanservice and much better art.

For a moment I thought the title of this article referred to the breast feeding scene in Wolf Children. LOL

I showed some clips of the movie to my five-year-old niece, and was thrilled that she wanted to watch the "raising wolves" clip over and over again. Sooo cute! I wonder if she'll have the patience to sit through the whole movie...or if she should watch the whole thing (the mom makes out with the dad while he's in wolf form? Uhh...)

Ah, Christmas Carols. They used to be the bane of my existence. I suppose its the quintessential Jewish American experience--feeling left out, and kinda feeling guilty when you like 'em. Why do all the stores have to play them? Why does Light-FM turn into an all Christmas music station? Why do I like "Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas" so much?

One of my favorite newspaper strips have a family in a car trying to find non-Christmas music on the radio. They land on a station playing "White Christmas" and grandma calls out "That one's Jewish! It was written by Irving Berlin!" Laughing (I wish that song was more realistic. Did they really have white Christmases in the shtetl, Irving?)

I saw Maken-Ki but only after I heard that Funimation was going to release it. I didn't think much of it but I didn't think much of the original manga, though the artist did some pretty decent porn before he had to come up with plots for a living.

This is either "Too much information" or "Well, it all makes sense, now." About "who", I leave up to you.

My god, man, if you're going to make a boob show, at least put some thought into the boobs.

I can't argue against this but I didn't think the boobs were the problem. Good or bad, they are still the only thing worth mentioning and that's the problem. Not the action, not the story, not even the girls, just the boobs. With Queen's Blade or Samurai Girls, even Queen's Blade Rebellion where the only thing it has going for it are pretty much just boobs, I can at least name some of the girls because I was invested in them as characters.

If just bare-ly in the case of Rebellion.

Oh, I've been waiting months for Wolf Children, Even setting aside money to buy it(a big risk with my current financial situation) so I'm very happy it was Shelf Worthy. I wonder if Mamoru Hosada will ever have a movie that's not a great experience.

Now now, don't bring the furries into this. They didn't do anything. X3

I'm pretty sure he took human form before they had sex.
