I had never picked up the Ranma 1/2 DVD's before but recently I had purchased the Season 1 set (The Digital Dojo) and I was really entralled by the series. The price was very affordable. Does anyone know if VIZ is planning on releasing the rest of the series in this affordable format? So far, I haven't heard anything regarding any other releases for the following season sets.

The second season is scheduled to come out July 31st, but there isn't a date that I can find for the other seasons.
These thinpacks are very frustrating to me because, after being available for YEARS on DVD in the more expensive format, I figured no other version was in sight and started buying the original versions. Then they come out with thinpacks after I had already bought seasons 1-6. Bah.... |

I thought you knew? Viz was JUST WAITING for you to do that! Their spies were keeping an eye on all of your purchases and when you bought regular box sets, they signaled the Viz leadership who then gave permission for the release of the thinpacs. I just checked TRSI. They have July 31st for the second season as well but, judging from the prices, nothing yet on the other seasons. http://www.rightstuf.com/cgi-bin/catalogmgr/E-SJozWUASGZrNBhi8/browse/search/5/4/0/0/results/desc/asc/50/1 |

TRSI's website says
My math sucks but I'd say that's about a 60% difference. |

Actually, what happened was I ordered the 5th season during a TRSI "40% off Viz" sale and it took something like 4 or 5 months before the set actually shipped, and literally the SAME DAY they sent me the notice that it shipped, the thinpack of season 1 was announced. SAME DAY. *sigh* I guess I didn't get *too* screwed, since I bought seasons 1-3 used at about $60 a pop and 4-6 at 40% off. Still, 40% off $50 would have been nice.....
So far, yeah, but I'm sure they'll release thinpacks of the other 5 seasons eventually as well. And I'm sure TRSI will have another "40% off Viz" sale in the not-too-distant future, if you can't wait for the thinpacks but don't want to blow $120. |

Yeah, I don't think they ever officially announced anything but I'm pretty sure they'll be releasing the rest as well. I'm the biggest idiot because I already have the original box sets, all 7 and the OAVs, and as if I didn't spend enough on those, I not only repurchased the re-release of the OAV but also the season 1 thinpaks, just to see if anything else was added as extras. There wasn't any, so I don't think I'll be as stupid with the rest of the thinpak sets.

Have you watched any of the episodes yet? Is the DVD transfer the same? There was some jittery images on the DVDs, which I understand was because of the age of the masters that they got but I was just curious if it looks any better or if it looks the same. It usually wasn't too noticeable during the episodes, but the flicker surrounding some of the running chracters during the opening theme dang near gave me seizures. |

I don't believe there wasn't any clean up done. Hmm.. I don't know, I never bothered to really compare the two, If I have time I'll pop them in back to back tomorrow just to get a look, but I did watch three of the season 1 disks when I got it, and while it looks alright sometimes you still get the jittery video, so I'm assuming that there probably won't be a major difference when I take a harder look. |

I'm just glad that Viz has decided to release the series in the lower priced thinpack editions. I think as soon as Viz announces the release for a new thinpack season set they take the previous version out of print. I'm not too much worried about cleanups for the series. I'm just glad to get the chance to experience this series that I remember by name only from the mid-eighties.

I hope they do release the whole series. I've wanted to watch Ranma ever since I first head about the series and played a little bit of the SNES game a couple of years ago. Now I might finally be able to afford it!

This is one of those series that I've held off buying for years; looks like I made the right decision. Score.
I just hope they finish the whole run in the new format. |

Oh, I'm sure that they will. Don't worry. Because it's an "older" title, it might not be selling as much as it used to, so issuing the thinpacks may be their way of getting new fans who may have not wanted to buy the regular packs. |
