I, like all of you am a fan of the music that are played while enjoying an anime. Openings, endings and inserts (is that what'd you refer to it as?).
There are quite a few songs and artists I really like, some examples are: Fullmetal Alchemist: (Conqueror of shamballa as well) The great pieces of Michiru Oshima "Ready Steady Go", "Link" & "Lost Heaven" by L'Arc~en Ciel "Melissa" by Porno Graffitti "Undo" by Cool Joke "Rewrite" by Asian Kung-Fu Generation "Kesenai Tsumi (The Unerasable Sin)" by Nana Kitade "Tobira no Mukou e (To the Other Side of the Door)" by YeLLOW Generation Gundam Seed/Destiny "Believe" & "Reason" by Nami Tamaki "Invoke" by T.M Revolution "Anna ni Isshodattanoni (Even Though We Were Together So Much)" by See-Saw "Pride" by High and Might Color Bleach "*~Asterisk" by Orange Range "D-tecnolife" by UVERworld Eureka Seven "Days" by Flow "Shounen Heart (Young Boy's Heart)" by Home Made Kazoku Samurai 7 "Unlimited" by Nanase Aikawa Beck: Mongolian Chop Squad "Hit in the USA" by Beat Crusaders And many songs from InuYasha including "Owarnai Yume" by Nanase Aikawa. It's a fair amount unfortunately those are the only ones I know of that I like.  We don't get as much anime as you would in the US (I'm in Canada). So it's much more limited. I've been searching fpr new music but not only for personal enjoyment. I want to play then at my school on our little radio thing we have. It's nothing special but many friends of mine like J-Pop & Rock. So it'd be great to get it on our radio.
Judging by the songs and artists I listed could you guys recommend some good songs for me or overall soundtracks and such? These won't last long when we start the radio program. EDIT: "Dive to Blue" by L'Arc~en~Ciel, it's not from an anime but it's a great song. Thanks in Advance.

I could recommend you some stuff, but if you haven't seen any of these series in completion or at least to where they are now, I'm not sure how much help they'd be.
I recently watched Fullmetal Alchemist myself a couple of weeks ago and really enjoyed Oshima's score. Another series she worked on recently is Le Chevalier D'Eon, a historical piece taking place in mid-1700s France. If you liked her orchestral stuff in FA, you'll more than likely enjoy Chevalier's score. I'm surprised you only liked *~Asterisk from Bleach. Personally, my favorite OP song is Tonight, Tonight by Beat Crusaders (because they always remind me of BECK, which by the way is blasphemy since you only mentioned the OP; all of the music in the series rocks  ). But if you really want a good alternative rock score to listen to, you can't go wrong with The Pillows and the music of FLCL.
Another band I'd like to recommend, who actually hasn't done anything for anime aside from the ED to Gungrave, is Scoobie Do. They've got a real bouncy '70s style of rock; they make great use of the occassional trumpet in a few of their songs too. Try to give a listen to their album GET UP and you'll know what they're all about. |

Thanks a lot. BTW, I've only seen up to Episode 26 of Bleach and Episode 8 of BECK. This is what happens in Canada, they take long to get worthy anime and then they start reruns in the middle of the series (Bleach). It took years to watch DBZ and InuYasha each. I'm glad FMA wasn't subject to this but it's really annoying. At least BECK is moving well, two episodes per week so as you can tell it just got here.
I'll check out those songs/artists. I should've noted my favourite band at this moment is L'Arc~en~Ciel.

Oh, okay. Then I take it your musical experience is limited only to what you've seen and heard on Canadian TV? If so, there are many, many great instrumental scores and OP/ED songs out there that I'd like to recommend for anyone that just likes music in general. But like I mentioned, without actually seeing the series, a lot of the music will lose some of its context, since it was made for the said title in the first place (aside from OP and ED songs since most of those are from Japanese mainstream artists).
So my general advice would be to watch more anime, and maybe you'll like the music as well. A lot of people seem to be fans in the general vicinity of any anime that has musical compositions by Yoko Kanno or Yuki Kajiura. |

That's the case for me, only what shows here in Canada. I just recently started watching Cowboy Bebop, Samurai Champloo, Samurai 7, Basilisk and Trinity Blood, all popular anime that unfortunately required me to subscribe to Razer TV to see. As for music composition pieces, I understand what you mean but at this time they aren't as much of a need. Since I'll be using these on the school radio I'll need songs with a vocal and such so OP & EDs are went I'm really trying to find.
EDIT: I just heard Dive to Blue by L'Arc~en~Ciel. Comfirming that they are may favourite band. However Driver's high isn't as good. I also heard Ride on Shooting Star, it's alright, not to my taste. I'm not initially a rock fan so maybe that's why my tastes vary because it seems that song is quite popular. I'd also like to mention that Invoke is probably the only song I've heard so far I like from T.M Revolution. |

"Driver's High" is better live than in the studio. "Ride on Shooting Star" is a good song by the pillows; but it's not their best. Listen to "ROBOTMAN" and fully feel the musical vibes the pillows have, T.M. Revolution: eh, I see him as a Bowie wannabe. However his new band Abingdon Boys School is really good. If you want to hear a great progressive rock band from Japan, then you can't go wrong with Mono. They only do instrumentals; and the songs they do are 5-15 minute epics that not even some of the greatest classical performers could've conjured up. |

Progressive rock? Is that the majority of which I'm listening from what I listened above? Sorry, I'm just not all too familiar with some of the secondary genres of rock.
I'll be sure to listen to Robotman though, thanks.

I made a couple of additions in the first post, any other recommendations? I'd still like to know what kind of rock L'Arc~en~Ciel music would be classified as however they do have a variety of songs from more melodic to somewhat hard rock.

Okay I know a band that is pretty good, but their name is kinda dorky. Okay very dorky but what ever, Its' Asian Kung-fu generation. The songs I like of theirs are: Rewrite& Haruka Kanata. Also Home made Kazoku has good music. The song from them I like are Thank you!!, & Shounen heart. Hope I was some help this time. Lol.

Yes! I agree with all of that. Those are good groups and good songs. I second the recommendation! If you haven't heard them, I would also recommend all the Eureka 7 songs. I think the show is lucky to have such an amazing set of great songs. For orchestral, soundtrack stuff I would recommend Samurai X: Remeniscence and Samurai X: Reflection soundtracks. They're good, especially when you know the context.
I'm surprised you like that song. It has kind of a catchy beat, but I find it incredibly annoying! It's frustrating that some Japanese bands seem to think they need to speak in English to appeal to Americans. Even if they don't think that it is still generally annoying because they pronounce things strangely and sometimes use pretty random words. Not that Japanese learning English is bad--I just wish they would really learn the language before they try to sing it. |
