I know that we all appreciate the background music (subconciously) that set the tone in anime but it seems that the composers don't get the credit they deserve for the outstanding jobs they do in setting tone and even enhancing a certain situation. Michiru Oshima, composer for Fullmetal Alchemist has done a great job with the music throughout the anime and movie however it seems no one mentions him nor the music itself for that matter. I'm just curious but is the music in the anime itself and/or the composers important to you in terms of its contribution to an anime?

Well I didn't know that. Thanks. However regarding the topic, it's not that similar. It deals with the music within the anime but I'm asking if it's important to those viewing the anime as something that really contributes to their liking of the overall product. EDIT: I just checked and yes she is a women, wonder why I thought otherwise. Maybe I'm just confused atm. |

All right, well, I just re-read your OP and I'm sorry for heckling x) The way you worded it, though, sort of makes it sound like you're asking about good composers in anime. ANYWAY. Yes, the music of an anime can be important when I'm deciding whether to watch something or keep watching something, although if a good story has sub-par music, I'll usually stick with it. Inversely, though, I kept watching Earth Maiden Arjuna because the music added a completely new dimension to an otherwise rather slow anime, and I ended up really enjoying it. |

Ah so in that it enhanced and even made the anime more appealing to you. I think people subconciously forget how the music in the anime itself can affect its quality. Also sorry if my wording was a bit confusing.

If they don't get the credit they deserve, there wouldn't be threads like this. |

Yeah, Yoko Kanno and Joe Hisiashi need to be put up on a higher pedestal then they already are.

Nobody I know of ever mentions Taku Iwasaki, but his music is really awesome. The theme for Read or Die practically made the anime, and his soundtrack for the Kenshin OVAs was increadibly nuanced and beautiful. When I found out he was doing the music for Oban Star Racers it actually made me watch the show (which is a kinda guilty pleasure for me considering how odd the anime style is).
Also I find Naoki Satou's music to be really powerful as well. Though the two soundtracks tend to sound the same, his work in Eureka7 and X TV was very good. And I think Yoko Kanno deserves all the hype she gets, but still it's all be talked about before, so no need to rehash it here. |

I didn't know I was required to search the entire forum before making a blanket statement Anyhow that's cool that I'm not the only one who thinks his music is awesome. He's just someone I think flies under the radar of most anime fans. |

The Rurouni Kenshin OVA soundtrack is my favorite soundtrack in the series, except for, perhaps, the music of the Kyoto Arc from OST II: Departure. Noriyuki Asakura does a fantastic job at setting the various moods for the Kyoto Arc and he as well as Taku Iwasaki have almost spoiled me for other anime soundtracks. In fact, the Rurouni Kenshin OVA OST and the Rurouni Kenshin OST II were the first anime soundtracks that I ever bought. |

Yeah, you europeans get screwed out of a lot of nerdy things, don't you? On the bright side, you get all the metal music several days before us. |
