I recently came across their albums, and until now I only ever heard Kurenai- beautiful song. And just, each track is equally amazing. Being a fan of 80's/European heavy metal, this is right up my alley.

This band is big with the anime nerds and Japanophiles who normally arent into metal which surprised me, considering this style isnt very popular at all otherwise. Oh well. Awesome band. \m/

Very Happy I haven't heard too much of their stuff (mostly cause I'm not hugely fond of Toshi's voice Sad) but have you heard Art of Life? It's half an hour long and its an absolute masterpiece. Ten minutes or so of that is Yoshiki having a brilliant piano solo, but the rock bits of it are quite incredible. It's just about the only song of theirs for which I'll stand the singing because I just love the music so much.

I think they're probably popular with people who aren't normally into metal because they aren't really that heavy from what I've heard of them, and they have ballads and things as well.

Yeah, I didn't get a chance to listen to the whole thing, but what I heard is pretty beautiful. They do kinda got the speed metal thing goin on in some songs, yeah they have a lot of soft ballady stuff, but they get pretty heavy as well, with X and Dhalia.

Being a big metal fan I got really into X Japan in the early 90s. I would say get Blue Blood, Jealousy and Dahlia. I ended up going crazy and bought all the live versions, box sets (I love the shirt that comes in the B.O.X.) , best of, and CD singles (including both sized CD editions of Longing). These pretty much are more of the same that the four major releases already cover.

I even went out and bought the Kiss cover album for the Yoshiki track, all of Hide's solo albums (I love the Giger cover) , Toshi's solo albums, the Roger Taylor Yoshiki CD, the V2 (Koumro and Yoshiki) LD, a single with Pata on it, The Saturn video game, etc. I guess you can say I was obsessed with this band. If you want to get a second tier album I would recommend Vanishing Vision or the epic Art of Life, or the amazing 2 CD Eternal Melody.

The band seems to have more CDs than actual songs. I think Endless Rain is on at least a dozen of my CDs.

They only have 5 actual albums out . All the rest is pretty muchwhat you just listed; a bunch of pointless live albums, compliations, rerecordings, etc of previous works. I did get them all. And I cant stop listening t them.

I'm also a big XJapan fan. I have only known about them a few months but I fell in love the moment I heard Endless Rain the first time. I'm nuts about their ballads collection, but I'd like to hear more of their "rockier" stuff. I've heard some of their songs like Rose of Pain, Joker, Drain (with Dir en Grey)... Could you guys who seem to know more give me the names of some great XJapan songs and/or CD's?

If you like X-Japan, you need to check out MUCC. They go more funk than ballad when they slow things down, but the songwriting and musicianship is unreal. Seriously, go out and buy a copy of "Gokusai" right now. Go on.

My God, they're nothing like XJapan. Sorry, but that's not my cup of tea at all.
