I had dinner at a most interesting place the other night. It is called Blowfish Sushi. Besides the techno music that that was playing, the most interesting thing was the various screens around the restaurant showing anime. The screens varied in size from wall sized projection screens to small TV screens. Also, the artwork on the walls are all anime cels.
So, I don't know if it is different earlier in the day, but my first impression as I walked up to the front door was the large screen facing the street showing an episode of Najica, panties and all. Then, while we were eating, the large screen next to our table showed Plastic Little, in all it's physics defying glory. Definitely not for family dining. Other shows on display were Onegai Teacher, Devil Lady, Crying Freeman, and Excel Saga. I also noticed a previews for Vandread and Love Hina. I couldn't help notice that the lions share of the showings were ADV titles. Hmmm.... Anyhow, I thought I'd let everyone know about this. Other than some concern about content in a public setting, I though it was a pretty cool place. |

This was in San Jose? I'll have to make sure to check it out next time I'm down there (In March for Fanime I expect).

I'll assume that http://www.blowfishsushi.com/ is the website since they are also selling a CD with stuff that sounds like it might be techno-ish.

I did have an idea to go to a local Hibachi that does all you can eat sushi and ask is I could play some anime dvd on the tvs they had there. Never did it and probably never will but it would be cool.
P.S. Sushi is sooooooo goooooood......but sooooooooo expensive. |

Blowfish Sushi is located in San Francisco and San Jose. Here is the information: http://blowfishsushi.citysearch.com/ and http://www.posthoc.com/blowfishsushi.htm The sushi is decent however, as a patron of many years, the quality has changed (and IMO not necessarily for the better). I will concur that the mood is fun and while it can get a tad loud, the environment is festive if you have the right group of people to accompany you. As for the cels displayed, some are from pretty well-known AIC animes like Bubblegum Crisis and Moldiver. I personally hope they will rotate the cels occassionally. Check it out if you have never been there, Blowfish Sushi can be a fun adventure.

Strangely enough, I actually have a postcard from that place. I found it near a ferry terminal in (of all places) Mukilteo, Washington. Now it's hanging on my wall.
Fugu is some crazy stuff. There's only one guy in all of Washington state that has the proper training to handle it (if memory serves, it's a seven-year class), though I've been remiss in my attempts to go eat there. The best thing about the postcard was the tagline: "Want to read one of our reviews? Check the obituaries." That's poetry, people. |
