Somethings telling me this is a big joke...I mean for one I don't think anything official would have a hit counter out in the open like that. Not to mention you would think they would have the copyright in English and not Japanese unless it was a English language Japanese site. Besides... I looked it up on Whois and I found out the domain was registered out of Chesterbrook, Pennsylvania. I just think something about this seems fishy...

I agree... there's nothing indicating that it's official at all...

used google and used one of those who-owns-the-domain-name things and a german hosting company came up.
(there's a really good who-owns search engine...but i forget what it was called...sorry)
not sure if that helps or not. usually it'll say 'funimation llc' or something like that.

You know enough to look up the domain yet didn't realize it's registered under a proxy registration? It has nothing to do with whoever owns the domain.
However, it would be odd for a big company to use 1&1 to register a domain.

As fantastically exciting as this news appears to be, I remain skeptical that it is indeed an 'offical' site -- doesn't ANN need more proof, from the licensing company itself for instance, before announcing something like this?
Please let it be true. I need those dvds.

Did you guys read the editor's note? Fans wouldn't pay for advertising just for a prank.
If you still have doubts, take a look at Anime on DVD's front page.

Yeah I just checked it out and there really is, like stated, nothing official about the website. This could be leading to something big, who knows? And further more, we only known about the website for what 30 minutes or so and every other anime site is JUST now advertising it and yet there has been over 900 visitors? Yeah something is not right.
Guess we'll have to see on December 22nd.

I didn't see any ads. I guess it's because I'm using Firefox.
Well, I've met crazier fans >_>

Ah, yes, yes! That's the strange feeling I couldn't identify when I visit the site for the first time, for I've been very used to copyright messages in Japanese, yet it supposed to be an English website featuring English copyright messages.
Can someone decode the ANSI text remark near the bottom of the HTML? I tried many methods (AppLocale, various translation engines, etc.) but still can't decode it.

And the hint on AnimeOnDVD is so obvious that it's hard to call it a "hint."

Feels pretty official to me. Wasn't the Japanese Haruhi website made to look like a high school club's site, like in the show?
This site could be getting the same treatment.

As is mentioned in other places, it is encoded in EUC-JIS and comes out as
Quote: | 禁則事項は12月22日に公表します。 |
when properly decoded.
Basically: "Classified information will be announced on 12/22"
