Does anyone have an recommendation for a replacement show for naruto? I thought i'd stop watching it until they come back with naruto 2 (end of fillers), and I wanted to take the time to watch others. Is there a anime similier, if not better then naruto?

p.s. something with equal amount of action

Hunter x Hunter and Bleach are both pretty obvious suggestions for you there, both are similar but arguably better than Naruto. They are both long, so either could keep you going for a while.

If not this thread contains suggestions for other shonen titles, so most of them should suit your tastes pretty well.

Ruroni Kenshin seconded, and third Bleach. Also, you might want to check out Full Metal Alchemist. All really great animes. Bleach or FMA is probably most like Naruto. If your in to futuristic action etc, you might want to check out movies like FF7AC or Appleseed, and maybe Ghost in the Shell. FF7AC and Appleseed don't exactly have that great of a plot, but I found the action scenes well developed.

Maybe Shaman King. I haven't seen it yet, but it is on my Want to See List. It's about spirits and a young boy who can communicate with them. I hear it's more of a kiddy anime, so I'm just throwing it out there for you.

Definitely try out Flame of Recca. I've seen several episodes of it, and I have to say that I enjoyed it very much. It's also on my Want to See List, because I can't see a little bit of a series and not see the whole thing.... Rolling Eyes It also has the supernatural powers that you're looking for.

I will also recommend Hunter X Hunter. I finished it a few weeks ago, and I have to say it's the most underrated Shonen title out there. They have the supernatural powers in this series too, except it's more diversified among the characters and it is introduced mid-way through the series. But, with HxH, make sure that you acquire the OVA's as well. They sequel the series, and were released as OVA's so that the series didn't have to undergo any pointless filler arc.

I'm also gonna' recommend Shana. I have yet to see this series as well, but it's high up on my Want to See List (figuratively speaking since in the list all the anime are arranged in alphabetical order). The character designs are sharp from what I've seen, it's defintely more mature than other Shonen titles, and it has a great story I hear. It's also a short series, running only 24 episodes. I don't know too much about it, so you should wait for someone who has more experience with this series (Tony K., selenta, frentymon, and others) to give you more of an explanation and heads-up on how good this series really is.

I'll also suggest Fullmetal Alchemist. It is dark, and it is different from others in its genre. I think it was Masterpiece, and I say you should definitely go for it. When you're done with the series, make sure to check out the movie that's the sequel to it too. I have it rated as a Masterpiece as well. I loved the movie. It's animation, story, ending.... basically everything was amazing. I can't wait 'til tomorrow! I'm going to NYC to see the movie in theatres! It's going to be off the chains!

I hope I could've been of more help! Very Happy

To those who know they posted, if you don't see your post it's because I deleted it for listing, refer to rule #3. If you're going to recommend something, at least say something about it. 3 sentences is all I ask for. It's easy:

Bleach -- If you like spirit entities, death gods, and swordfights, this is for you. About 60-some odd episodes stay with the original story, but the filler right now is pretty good too (unlike Naruto). Overall, it feels a lot more mature and has better continuity than 9 Tails Fox-boy.

Rurouni Kenshin -- More swordsmen/samurai-ish action. It starts off kinda slow, but is super awesome during the Kyoto arc (ep. 29-62). Season 3 is all filler and sucks rotten eggs. When you finish Kyoto, I recommend you try the OVA, "Samurai X: Trust & Betrayal." It's very violent and a great change of pace from the TV series." I would not recommend it in English, though..

Hunter X Hunter -- My 2nd favorite shounen series. The characters are very likeable and easy to root for. Gon has the same voice as Naruto, but with a less annoying attitude. There's also no filler. It's a great representation of friendship and teamwork.

See? Easy.

Oh come on Tony. You of all people should know how boring it is to read through a thread like this where 20 people all say the same thing. If someone wants to second an opinion, I don't think they should have to back it up neccessarily, assuming the first person to post a description of the show does a good job.

I would just not post at all, but I wish to add my two cents as I feel a number of sub par shows are often recommended, recommended without due basis (i.e. not that it's an inherently bad show... but sharinganeyes hasn't even SEEN Shamen King), or simply believe that a particular show would fit his tastes better.

Either way, fine. I'll say it again, only more.

Hunter X Hunter - The most similar to Naruto except less slapstick humor. One of the absolutely best shouen heros, as I find most of them are really annoying, because he's got all the right traits for a shounen hero, but is also completely realistic in his views. Not to mention an absolutely fantabulous world with so much possible material, it could go on for another 100+ episodes (no exaggeration) beyond the end of the OVAs and not even cover everything if it wanted to. This show got a 99/100 in my book, amazing show. It does feel really slow at times though (it's not), I'm not sure why.

Bleach - It's Naruto... except with death gods instead of ninjas. The first 15 or 20 episodes were really pretty lame in my opinion, not really that noteworthy, but when they get to Seireitai, it's all fantastic there. An absolutely gigantic cast of likable (if shallow) characters, the biggest problem here is that there is virtually no character development for a large amount of the cast. I never really got attached with any of the main posse.

Fullmetal Alchemist - Another fantastic shounen. If you're gonna watch it, sit through three episodes; if you like it (like me), you'll almost undoubtedly love the show. If you don't, you probably won't like the show. Biggest difference is that unlike the other three, this is a really dark show with lots and lots of tradgey and moral dilemmas.

In that order of similarity and quality. I think FMA is a better show than Bleach to be sure, but Bleach is definitely more similar to the Naruto you claim to like. All 4 shows are excellent or better in my book, so no matter which you choose you'll probably love it.

I'll second all of Selenta's reccomendations, and also say that if your looking more towards a mature type of action anime, you might want to look into Ghost in the Shell as I've said before.

Also,

1.)R.O.D(Read or Die) Basically everything Naruto isn't. No Ninjas, no balls of energy, and none of the "Inner Sakura" type of stuff, such as paled out faces (I don't know how to describe this). Basically the animation schemes are different.

2.S-Cry-Ed A pretty well done action series, although I felt it lacked plot. Basically after a bizarre incident happens in Japan the Lost Ground is spawned (An elevated Island out of the ground). People who are afected gain Alter power which allows them to take things from their surrounding and reform them into something else, such as summons. I wouldn't say the action scenes are bad, I just didn't really find them that great.

3.Yu Yu Hakusho This is the ONLY series I have ever watched on Cartoon Network, and the second series I have watched completely dubbed. This is a really great anime. Although the beginning is a little hard for some people to get through, it quickly redeems itself once Hieh(god dam I forgot how to spell his name) and the other guy...(sorry been 2 years) appear. Basically the main character dies then comes back to life (No spoiler tag, because it is completely obvious that he would come back to life as he dies in the first episode, right in the beginning.....) as a Spirit Detective (basically someone who deals with demons). I found this series got good when they were in the Dark Tournament. Also, this is a more borderline Naruto/Bleach series. The animation is a bit old, but still decent enough. The feel to it is not as light as Naruto is, but not as heavy as R.O.D.

4.NoirBasically a woman and a girl meet and take "a pilgrimage into the past." The girl supposedly has no idea of where she comes from and has no idea why she is alive, while the woman, Marielle, is an elite Assassin. Amazingly the girl is very skilled with a gun. Ok i make this anime sound like crap, however if you want to watch this anime, I honestly think you could watch episode 1, then skip to episode 7 or 8 without being confused. Noir's animation is around the same stage of R.O.D, (Darker colors than Bleach and Naruto). If you can, don't watch the dub.

I still dont get a@1

Edit-Some1 PM me what it means loll. =\

Excuse me? Watch your language, little man, or you'll be out of here faster than you can say "doodoo kaka".

EDIT: Wait, were you asking him for some toilet paper? That would be totally acceptable if you were. I don't know how he'd deliver it to you on time, though. It would probably be too late by the time it was shipped/flown to your house. If it's an emergency, just use your hands.

me neither... maybe asswipe? a-at-one wipe?

To the author of the thread: there are a fantastic amount of action-packed anime that you could pick up. Most of the most popular shounen titles have been mentioned already. If you are particularly fond of ninjas/samurai/martial arts themed shows then I would recommend the following:

Samurai 7 - quite loosely based on the classic black-and-white Japanese film "Seven Samurai", except set in a dystopian future (with giant mecha and robot samurai). Bandits are robbing the crops from poor peasant villages in the countryside. One of these villages sends out a few of its villagers to the city to hire samurai to defeat the Bandits once and for all. Animation is fluid and the characters are compelling and interesting. The fights aren't as drawn-out as Naruto battles (probably because samurai duels were renowned for being extremely fast), but I dare you to not be impressed by the grace of their moves.

Basilisk - the story summed up in 4 words "Ninja Romeo and Juliet". It's a bit of an over-generalization, but the basic premise is two powerful ninja clans, who have been enemies for generations (so long that it's a tradition for them Razz ) are asked by the Emperor to choose ten ninja each (not sure about the number of ninja) to fight each other till the death. The reason for this is to help choose an heir to the throne (one potential heir is assigned a clan and the other heir is assigned the other clan). Of course, thrust into the middle of this ninja war are two star-crossed lovers. Madly in love, but destined to never be together T^T The animation and art in this are absolutely gorgeous, the characters are detailed and well-drawn, and the anime is given a very dark forboding feel. Each ninja has a unique power, making the action-sequences a real sight to behold.

I would recommend more, but I'm not entirely sure how "deep" you want the anime to be. No offence, but Naruto is pretty low-brow (which is probably why I like it too Anime smile + sweatdrop )

Yeah, or you could use the phone book. My dad always tells me about the farm is family has and how it still has an outhouse to this day. Apparently his parents were too cheap to even buy toilet paper, so they had to use things like an old phone book. Be careful though, you gotta crumple em up and straighten em out a few times before they're soft! Laughing

Keep it up and it's a ban. You stop acting like an idiot and behave or retribution will be swift, because this kind of behaviour is utterly inexcusable.

And that's an ORDER. Do it, or leave.
