I'm not entirely certain I placed this topic in the proper section. For all I know I could be dumping salt water into fresh water, but it seemed relevant enough to this section.
That b.s. aside, let's hear the impressions of seasoned CONmen (worst joke ever). Would you recommend newcomers attending cons? Based on what I've heard, attending an anime con unprepared is virtually the same as entering Dante's inferno while on a bad trip. Alright, maybe not to that extent, but entering the heart of darkness nonetheless. As there are different levels of otaku, maybe the nerddom of my superiors may be too much for me to handle. What do you recommend? (if any replies surface at all) |

Not a seasoned con-goer, but here's my experience.
I went to my first con in 2012 (Animazement). I went to YouTube and saw videos of past cons, so I had an idea of what to expect. I schedule the day off from work, bought the ticket online, printed the schedule and mapped out an itinerary. Keep in mind I'm a middle aged guy, being organized is how I roll. So for me anyway, it was a fun stress free day on my own. I hope to go with a couple of friends next year, that should be an entirely different experience. Bottom line: Don't be skeered! I met a lot of nice peeps, saw some gorgeous cosplay. The vibe was overall one of youthful exuberance that was a refreshing change from the dull routine. Only letdown for me was dealer prices, eBay wins. |
