It doesn't mention her age at death, but they list 1986 being her first year of voice acting, so I will guess she was at least in her mid 40's. Nice looking woman too, so sad. My prays go out to her and her surviving family and friends. RIP.

She was Enil in Gundam X? o_O I never knew that. I'm a big fan of that show and I loved Enil. She was a good character. RIP Honda-san. You did an awesome job as Enil. Crying or Very sad

NOTE: She was also Elpeo Puru as well?! o_O This is even worse than I thought. @mohawk52 She was born March 28th 1963, according to Wikipedia.

Very sad, her work with Puru still resonates with anime fans across multiple generations and countries, myself included. That's an incredible gift to have, and it's tragic to see it extinguished from this world.

Then she would have been 50 had she lived to see her next birthday. So young, but that's cancer for ya. It can happen to anyone at any age.

Edit[Missed to oughties, thanks Dormcat ]

The VA for Meroko! Oh, my gosh, I still listen to that sound track frequently. I'm going to cry the next time I listen to her sing Meroko's version of "Myself." Rest in peace.

It's frightening to know that cancer kills more than malaria, tuberculosis and AIDS combined... Sad

R.I.P. So young too, especially given Japan's life expectancy.

My translation of the announcement from Aoni:

"Chieko Honda, a voice actor affiliated with us (Aoni), passed away in hospital on February 18th, 2013 from multiple myeloma, with no treatment proving effective. We thank everyone for their thoughts and prayers."

A lot of Gundam VA's like their characters seem to die before their time sadly. I still remember the sting of Hirotaka Suzuoki's (Bright Noa) death from cancer in 2006 and the same for You Inoue (Sayla Mass) in 2001.

As is tradition for this long time fan of the franchise, the tribute track I play in these situations:

Try 50. She was only 3 years older than me... Very sad!

I recognize her name from a character that I have always assumed was an homage to her: Chieko Honda in the Ah!/Oh My Goddess anime and manga. In the anime, the character appears in episode 23 of season 2 (Flights of Fancy), which is one of the OVA episodes from that season. The character was voiced by Chieko Honda. spoiler[The character is a former love of Keiichi's grandfather. She was keeping his grandfather's Brough Superior motorcycle for him and waiting for him to return. The motorcycle broke down, leading to their meeting, and he promised to return and take her for a ride around the lake on it after he fixed it. Alas, she was ill and died young, before he could return, and remained as a "remnant" waiting for the man she fell in love with to return for her. After Keiichi fixes the motorcycle and completes his grandfather's promise, she whispers her farewell to him in his ear as she dissipates into thin air. The excellent and very expensive motorcycle is left in the basement of the old estate house as a symbol of "romantic patience". The episode is very faithful to the manga chapter from whence it sprung and are both among the very finest in the franchise in terms of mood and emotional payoff. In addition, the theme of undying love that transcends even the boundaries of life itself is a wonderful analog of the relationship between Keiichi and Belldandy. It is a radiant and very tender story that always brings a tear to my eye.]

Brought a tear to my eye just reading your post.

May this woman rest in peace. She did a great job entertaining thousands, well..with Gundam at least, probably millions of people worldwide if they watched it in Japanese.
