Happy to oblige. Very Happy

Look for a review of Volume 10 when it comes out - presumably around the end of March, if Anime Works sticks to their updated release schedule. (Unfortunately, Twelve Kingdoms volumes have frequently been 2-3 weeks late.)

Hmn, I checked and couldn't find in the rules whether you actually aren't *allowed* to post in and old topic or just suggested against.... but there aren't many comments for DVD 9, it looks like the review for DVD 10 never came out like indicate, and I just recently finished watching the entire series.

I was very happy with the reviews given! I think this series is really underrated (or at least not as known as it should be.) Someone in the comments for DVD 1 mentioned that they found the main character, Youko's, whining or crying too annoying... but there's a lot of character depth to this series, and by this DVD she's successfully transformed into someone you can see as a compassionate warrior and queen. There's so much TRUTH to human nature in this series its easier to forget its fantasy based. Even the world they live in is so indepth and reflective of real monarchy, war, and situations.

This series have a tendancy to veer off to other characters and past arcs, but you get so involved into them that you typically don't care. I was really impressed when I found out that in the original fantasy novels that Youko WASN'T even a major character. As it is, I've read that the anime cut out a lot of other characters and tried to narrow things down more.

I've watched a bit of the series in english, compared it at times, but mostly watched it in Japanese. I admit that they did an admirable job with the english voice cast on a whole and sound pretty natural for the story, it was just a few slight preferences on my parts. I liked Youko's japanese voice a bit better, just had a subtle different feel or something to me.... I agree with the review that Keiki's english voice could have been better. I was surprised it wasn't mentioned, but one of the English voices that bothered me the most was the Emperor of En. I just love his japanese voice... (I feel remniscent of a more serious less egotistical version of Hotohori from FY.. and his character along with the loveable bratty karin of his just adds a little bit more humor)... His english voice came across as too deep or just being off somehow.

I have the soundtrack for this series btw, and I LOVE the music. If you like hauntingly beautiful instrumentals, perhaps with an ancient chinese feel, it's a must have. I absolutely LOVE Shoukei's song! I'm working to memorize the japanese version & got the sheet music for it. I had to check what the english version did to it but it also did a very nice job.

This is getting longer than I intended, but I did want to touch on the subject about the ending. Episode 39 IS a really nice ending point. It's conclusive, even has the special credits at the end. If you watch 40, it's going to get into a side arc and leave you on a cliffhanger. If you continue to DVD 10, which is the current end, it'll conclude the arc. It's a quite nice one with the past of the Emperor of En and his Karin (remember their kingdom used to be a tragic mess compared where it's flourishing currently). It's a very moving and good story--especially if you like the particular characters as much as me. HOWEVER, it doesn't feel like an end to the whole series (and actually, it isn't). It might just make you thirsty for more, even more so if you already are.

I think the series was actually supposed to be aroun 12 or so episodes longer, so DVD 10 is stopping before its time. One major reason that I can find why is that the author of the original novels apparently hasn't written another book for it in years so there might not be ample enough story to conclude the entire epic... that and the difficulty of keeping Youko as a main character. I just REALLY hope they will be able to continue. It's not so much that it's a bad end than I just want more (there were also some loose ends that need to be tied up like whatever happens to the kingdom of Tai...)

Forgive me please if I was in the wrong for posting on an old topic... Anime smile;; I just had a lot to say about it.

Posting on topics more than a couple of months old is generally discouraged because of issues of continuing relevance. (Some call it "necroposting.") But I don't think it's forbidden.

A review was posted for volume 10. You can find it here.

Okay thanks for the clarification. ^___^

And thanks for the link for DVD 10---it looks like because "the" was added before the title, it wasn't next to the previous two so I didn't see it!
