I hope this one is more serious like Sky Crawlers, Area 88, and Slipstream and not his typical whimsy like Porco Rosso. Sure that might be more "mature", but it's whimsical to the teeth nonetheless. There can't be too much room to impart his designs on real life planes. As far as getting mechanical designers, Jesus, don't you have an endless amount of options? There's two things animators love drawing: cute girls and highly detailed mechanics.
Or if it's going to be more of a biopic than something of action, it'll be easy to draw comparisons to the The Aviator, aside from the OCD lead. |

A quick search on Wikipedia turns up Jiro Horikoshi as the designer. His autobiography was even published in English as Eagles of Mitsubishi: the story of the Zero Fighter.

Sounds like the 'dream' movie I have always wanted to see from Hayao Miyazaki. Other than Princess Mononoke and Ponyo, almost every film he makes involves either planes, flying machines, or flying through the sky. Can't wait to see it![/quote]

So it's the animated version of Kaze Tachinu (風立ちぬ), the manga on Jirō Horikoshi (堀越 二郎) by Hayao Miyazaki serialized in Model Graphix between Feb to Nov 2009. Hmm, the rumor has been around since mid-2011.
I can assure you that Miyazaki is not the only man who's anti-war but fascinated by war machines. |

I miss 1990s-Miyazaki like burning, but I still get so bounce-up-and-down psyched whenever I hear he's working on something new! I wish him luck with this project and look forward to seeing it.
Also Osamu Kobayashi is great! So are Hashimoto and Kanada, of course. It's neat to see that all these coolios are in touch with each other. :) |

I don't know if this will be his last film, but it sounds like a helluva one to go out on if it is. |

Miyazaki's anti-war, but he helped his family work on planes during WW2, so he's into airplane porn as a whole.

No, not really. If you are serious about something - and Miyazaki is nothing at all if he is not serious - then you need to understand it as much as possible. If Miyazaki could successfully find a way to render war unneeded, well I for one would cheer. Mark Gosdin |

Finally!!! This are great news!
Some people were bummed when the "Porco Rosso" sequel was changed to the new biographical film but now hearing that it also has to do with planes should excite some of those people. Nevertheless, this movie is going to have a more serious tone than Porco Rosso. Miyazaki totally changed course after the Tsunami in japan. |

This is pretty strange coming from a guy who didn't come to the US to recieve his first Accademy Award because of the US bombing Iraq, but knowing Mr. Miyazaki and Studio Ghibli it's going to be fantastic.

Hopefully, we'll see some animation of the A6M Type 0's predecessor, the A5M Type 96 ("Claude"). The A5M and the Nakajima Ki-27 helped pave way for Japan's complete air superiority over China in the late 1930's.
