Anyone know how the person died? Was it from internal injuries?Do they say why in the next episode? If so then don't tell me how. |

If you watch the show again you can see the point where he is shot by Holy in the back, there's no blood but he winces in pain.

I have never cried before from watching anime but I came very close to doing that after watching Voices of a Distant Star. That is probably the saddest anime that I've seen by far.
An anime episode that I've seen recently in the last 2 weeks that has made me very sad is the 5th episode of Elfen Lied. It was so depressing seeing Mayu reminisce about her abusive past and trying to deal with her unenviable situation by herself and with her dog, until it gets taken away . It was also kind of sad seeing Kouta and Yuka crying over having to leave Nyu behind, even though it seemed a little spontaneous and unexpected. I don't think I will be going further than the 5th episode for now until I collect the last two dvds, but I am extremely anxious to see the rest of what this series has to offer.
Other series that have made me sad are Alien Nine, Cardcaptor Sakura and A Little Snow Fairy Sugar.
And one more thing. Most people seem to think that Grave of the Fireflies was a very sad movie but I guess I'm in the minority that didn't get it. I watched this movie once a few weeks ago and I'm planning to watch all the extras and watch the movie again to see if I feel the same way because the movie was pretty disappointing to me.

In Fushigi Yugi, when Tamahome's family is murdered
Also, in the manga Kare Kano when Arima stabs himself with a knife or pen I was sad and scared at the same time
And of course Grave of the fireflies, all of it...

The last episode of Cowboy BebopNot when Spike dies, but when the song Blue plays right after that. So depressing.
The 23rd episode of EvangelionWhen Rei sacrifices herself and the EVA to save Shinji and prevent the Angel from making contact with a human mind. I'm sorry but that sort of stuff just gets me.

Episode 19 of RahXephon when Ayato kills the dolem that turned out to be connected to Asahina, and all during the battle, Asahina is trying to tell Ayato though the dolem who is connected to that dolem he's mutilating. What really makes the heart wrench is the leading up to that battle as Asahina struggles with the fact that she's mulian, and also her last words to ayato as she dies being "I love you."
Grave of the Fireflies: BYOBoT (Bring Your Own Box of Tissues)
Now and Then, Here and There: all of this series is extremely tragic and can make one cry, but what almost did it to me is when we see that sara is being/has been/is about to be raped.
Parts of Fushigi Yugi were near the tearful level, but not really. Very sappy and can be sad at times, and one really does feel for the characters, it's just that not enough of it is tragic ENOUGH for long enough to make me cry. Tamahome's family's murder was very tragic and sad, but we didn't get to know them well enough to really get the slam dunk emotional punch to get the tears rolling.
Now, here's what I consider to be the most tearful (in terms of the viewer crying) anime: Full Moon wo Sagashite. This anime has ALOT of tearful moments, too many to name all of them except the most memorable one (IMO): When Mitsuki finds Eichi's grave. Now, I am a very stoic man, in that even when I see something in anime that simply yanks the heck out of my heart strings, I most likely won't cry. Not that I don't desire to or anything like that (I'm man enough to cry), but that the tears won't flow. But I swear that there were scenes in FMwS that got me teared up pretty good, and from talking with other fans, I'm not the only grown man who has teared up or fully broken down in tears due to this anime. The plight of mitsuki alone is enough to make the protective complex in us guys react, whether we be brothers, fathers, or surrogate older brothers to some young girl.

The anime that got to me the most was Gundam Seed Destiny when Stellar died in the arm of Shinn.
Another anime was One Piece when Nami mother died in front of her and Chopper's story

No one mentioned Scrapped Princess.. there's a great ending scene to one of the sub-stories. One of my all time fav.
Naruto anime used to have that effect on me first few seasons.. It kinda lost it lately.. I'm patiently waiting for it to come back:)

God...this thread has really dug up and reopened old wounds (which hurt more now, since I'm in a bit of an emotional rut at the moment...)
as for my list:
1. Voices of a Distant Star: the whole thing is a tear-jerker
2. Naruto (episode 19): This has already been mentioned
also, in episode 114 when chouji "dies". Even though he lives, that scene is just so...eeeeeeeh. I can't help but tear up, especially his last words. And that smile on his face...
3. Rahxephon (same episode as Sir_Brass for the same reasons)
4. Bebop when Ed left and also the last episode
5. Oddly enough, I didn't cry in FMA when hughes died, but he was still my favorite character, and it was a really powerful scene.
6. Rurouni Kenshin Betrayal: not when tomoe dies, but near the end when Kenshin thinks about her, and it shows her placing that scarf around him, and hugging him...hit me...right here...*smacks heart*
My friend who saw saikano cried his eyes out during episode 9. I haven’t seen it myself, but I know what happens, and don’t blame him.

Closest I have come is Millenium Actress, I was quite choked up at the end. The directing and writing really brings you into the movie and makes you feel for the characters.

The last episode of Figure17 really about killed me. I'm forty-something, sitting all alone on the couch, crying like a baby. I even found myself tearing up the next day at work thinking about it........., almost sad really .
It's amazing how "connected" you can become with certain series/characters, almost without realizing it. Ah, nothing like having your heart ripped out through your tear-ducts.............

That episode of Naruto where the Hokage dies. Espescially when he is saying how everyone in the village is important. That was so sad.

My main crying moments mostly occured in Mahoromatic at multiple points in the last set of episodes including when Mahoro finally tells Suguru who is responsible for his father's death , when Suguru's grandfather summons Slash in order to destroy Management, knowing that he won't come out of it alive, when Mahoro sacrafices herself to protect Suguru from Feldrance, the opening sequence of the last episode, where Suguru is remembering the events of Mahoro's death (and the music pretty much made the scene unbarible), how the last episode is 20 years later, which eliminates any appearences from any other character (besides Shikijo and Ryuga), how Suguru completely changes in attitude, and his developed hatred for androids, and Suguru's supposed death, if you want to believe it like that. I think the ending was one of those where you can believe what you want to, and I'd like to believe that Suguru indeed did live and that Mahoro did indeed come back to life. =/
The other tear jerker for me was Da Capo, including Junichi's and Nemu's supposed forbidden love, Yoriko's leave and Mech Miharu's inevitible deactivation, and Nemu's sudden anmesia. It's acctually more complicated than that, but that's probably the best way I could word those.

Probably the anime that got me crying the most times was Gundam SEED. A lot of things happened during the series, too many to name but one big part was When Rau died, even though he was a bad guy I really liked him and I was connected.
Another would be Air and the Air Movie. Both times it got me, because
Misuzu dieing, seeing it again after watching the TV version and watching the Movie. Just thinking what it was like for her to suffer.
Let's see. Samurai 7 I haven't seen on this. I was so sad and mad at the same time! A lot of the Samurai's dieing all in one episode was like..."Whoa!". But Kyuzo dieing was such a shocker to me, I really liked him to! All the cool people die!
But anyways, there's others like Cowboy Bebop, and Wolf's Rain, but some people already said them.

I'm a guy and i'm not ashamed if i cry or admit anything that would demean a stereotypical guy. Crying doesn't mean your less of a guy, crying means you're human and that your capable of feeling pain or compassion. Even though they are characters in a show, the show tells you their story, their trials and successes and being attached to characters just means you're feeling compassion. |
I've thought this through and come to the same conclusion--too bad society still subtracts "Masculinity Points" for this kind of thing.
Well, I'm just a sentimental fool for anime, so my list would be too long to recount--I can second what people said about Air, Full Moon wo Sagashite, Mahoromatic, Cowboy Bebop, and Fushigi Yuugi, and I'll add a few:
Fruits Basket Many, especially the stories in eps 8 and 17, and then the last two eps, when Kyo says "You didn't have to love everything."
Angelic Layer Such a heartwarming show, which makes it so sad when Misaki finally sees her mother at the end. I think I was in tears for most of episode 25.
Pretear--the battles and sacrifices at the end are powerful, plus all the little moments, like when Mawata finally calls Himeno's dad "Father.
End of Evangelion When that English song starts to play and based on Shinji's "I don't care, they can all die" words, you know the Third Impact is unavoidable.
Even Koi Kaze, like Key said--I certainly don't want to relate to the incest, since I'm 24 and have a teenaged sister, but the romance/sadness is there, particularly when Nanoka says I'm sorry for falling in love with you.
And lastly, one show I finished recently was Kimi ga Nozomu Eien--I won't say anything specific; that show was so consistently sad, and I was laid up in bed in tears for a few minutes after the final credits rolled on episode 14. Good times EDIT: Then again, I was watching the eps while lying in bed anyway (as I did with all downloaded anime until I moved in August 2006), so it's not like I watched the episode and then crawled into bed to cry.

I've only almost cried in anime twice - (Wolf's Rain)at the end, when everyone was dying and in FMA when Hughes died
It takes a lot to get me to cry, but not because I think I'm too "manly" or whatever for it. Its like, in the back of my mind, I know that the anime isn't real, and that makes it less sad for me.
