I think a lot more people are shocked by the cast, ne?
I mean NYAV Post Shocked

I haven't even heard of those people who were casted.

I really thought New Generation Pictures, Bang Zoom! or AniMaze would be producing the ADR.

Before I had preordered the first volume, I was really hoping and looking forward that Bridget Hoffman, Tony Oliver, and Sherry Lynn would return, and maybe also Mary E. McGlynn.

I mean, isn't there anyone else shocked by this?

I'd like to make a petition demanding another dubbing of the series. Anyone agree?

Petitions never work. Best bet on an anime with a bad english cast is to just watch it with japanese audio and english subs.

Nobody said it was a bad cast. Stop assuming because you think Japanese is superior.

FYI, Sean Schemmel (Goku in DBZ) is directing. This isn't his first cross-country trip (DBZ was done in TX, OMG was done in NY) for directing anime, though.

NYAV is pretty cool

I hear good things about MIDORI DAYS, so this will probably be okay

I need to check out their dub on that. Another very good dub by them you could check out is Piano according to what this person said on AnimeOnDVD. Though the only NYAV dub I heard is Magic Users Club, and that had me in stiches! Laughing

Drew Aaron did a very good job as Seiji in Midori Days. He'll have to soften his voice a bit to play Keiichi, but I'm not worried.

I don't know Eileen Stevens, as she's practically a newbie, but I'm not worried there, either. The most recent batch of new English VAs circulating through the industry has been a very good one, with several stand-outs (Tiffany Hsieh, Melissa Huchinson, Kether Fernandez, and Drew Aaron among them) that are sure to have long careers ahead of them if they want them. These are trained people coming out of theater backgrounds, not the no-talent off-the-street rejects wh0 all too frequently turned up in old dubs.

The fact that Sean Schemmel is in charge heartens me, because the three titles that I've watched where he was in charge (Midori Days, Sadamitsu the Destroyer, The Weathering Continent) all had good dubs.

Give the dub a chance before you start criticizing it.

With the original Japanese VA cast back, why would you even watch the dub? In my opinion, Kikuko Inoue is the only one who could ever play Belldandy.

Yes of course. That's a given.

But I just feel that Ah! My Goddess won't be the same as before. I already predicted that from the moment Media Blasters had acquired the license, my hopes were slowly sinking down the drain.
I really do hope they don't mess up the DVD too. And they better compensate my "predicted-below-average" dub by including cast interviews and lots of omake.

But I also remember in the Media Blasters panel sometime ago at Katsucon I think, that they'll be having at least a partial return of the OVA/movie cast. But it seems that this won't be happening since NYAV Post had took the spotlight.

I haven't watched any anime titles dubbed by NYAV Post, but I have watched several dubs from studios with the similar kind of people, e.g. Pokemon and Kare Kano, and their dubs were just average, if not sufficiently adequate.

Sorry folks about my rough tone, but I'm really much only a fan of Bang Zoom!/AniMaze. >.<[/quote]

Kusanagi-Kei, why ask for the mediocre Pioneer cast to subvert an unknown Media Blasters cast?

ahem......

WE WANT CESARIO AND SIMPSON!

God damn it, AnimEigo got it right a long time ago, and Cesario and Simpson (who, by the way, met voicing Bell and K1, and later got married) have said that they love their roles as anime's favorite married couple (Belldandy and Keichi, not they themselves).

That's a little tid bit I didn't know.

As a closet sap, I think it's pretty sweet (as in cool) that the two who played bell and k1 in the ova english dub met doing those rolls and eventually got married.

Heh, Bell and K1 seem to bring out the best in all of us, I guess Laughing Cool.

I'll give this new dub a shot, though in my mind, Inoue-san is the only voice of Belldandy that my ears will truly accept.

Yeah I too want them as well. I in fact supported Juliet and Scott more than Bridget and Tony before I had wanted the movie cast back, because Cesario gave a more younger out of this world Belldandy.

But in due time, I was completely in love with Bridget's voice, so I guess I'm biased all the way. Rolling Eyes
But I'd love to see Cesario and Simpson back. Truly. I wouldn't mind it, just as long as it either the OVA or the movie that's back.

I think Ah! My Goddess won't be the same ever again. NYAV Post isn't as great or popular as Bang Zoom! or ADV, or Ocean for that matter. But I think this Ah! My Goddess title will at least give them a good boost in revenue.

Only if they don't make a dog's dinner out of it. Only time will tell. Wink

Ugh, as I said before, ragging on a dub jub before anyone's actually heard it is just ridiculous. NYAV might not have the name recognition of the bigger or longer-established studios, but they aren't new to the game and the people in charge do have proven track records. I would be very surprised if the dub ends up being a "dog's dinner," regardless of whether or not any of the original cast is brought back.

Hardly an isolated case; industry people marrying each other seems to be fairly common in the world of anime dubbing. Consider, for instance, that the English VAs for all the main pilots in Evangelion ended up marrying the VAs for all the main techs.

I was suprised by them not using AnimEigo's or Pioneer's cast. For the record, I didn't like the VA Pioneer used for Belldandy. Her acting sounded forced and overly dramatic. AnimEigo's was better, and at least fit Belldandy better than Pioneer's
