From the ANN Lexicon:

OVA (or OAV) stands for "original video animation" (or "original animated video"). They are series that go straight to the video market without first going through a theatrical release or television broadcast.

ONA stands for "original net anime". This is basically a series created exclusively for Internet broadcast, such as Azumanga Web Daiohand Lingerie Fighter Papillon Rose.

ANN uses the abbreviation OAV in the Encyclopedia, but most publications and fans (including me) use the more popular abbreviation OVA. Personally, I use OVA just because it sounds better. Wink
