Maybe the Chinese don't really know what they want. They protest over the Japanese war crimes and the dependence that the Chinese economy has on Japanese goods (Imports are at 22 Trillion Yen - more than what the US Imports from Japan) , yet they'll gladly watch a Japanese movie.

Don't read the (non-anime) news much, huh ? The chinese are protesting Japan's decision to adopt somewhat revisionist text books, and Japan's candidacy for a permanent seat on the UN's Security Council. Japan has also started giving out Oil drilling charters in territory that is contested by China. -t |

Dude, I really resent that. (I'm Chinese) Just because I think the Japanese did some horrible things in WW2 and I think they should apologize doesn't make me a hypocrite for liking their pop culture. I mean, the ability to dislike what someone's done but NOT hate them for it...I think that'd be called, what, open-mindedness? <sarcasm>If you think Chinese people SHOULD hate Japanese people to be "non-hypocritical," then i suppose you'll be happy to hear that there ARE such people in China, whom, I might add, would actually physically assault someone if they knew that person was Japanese.</sarcasm> |

I'm sorry about saying that, I think it came out wrong. I don't think the Chinese should hate the Japanese, but the Japanese do need to recognize what they did in WWII and not try to act like what they did doesn't exist. |

I just cannot understand why the Japanese government cannot act like the Germans and face the history. She always cares so much about her own wound, but does not has the courage to recognize the pain she inflicted on other countries...

I do not agree with boycotting Grave of the Fireflies though. First, political disputes and cultural exchange should be treated seperately. Second, it is one of the best anti-war anime of the history. In no way it glamourizes any side that participated in the great war. Rather, it condemns war, greed and selfishness through the sufferings of the two innocent children. Last edited by Doraneko on Fri Apr 15, 2005 2:35 pm; edited 2 times in total |

Yes I talked to my Japanese girlfriend about this (not the anime news), I think Japan should revise the text books instead of making excuses as to why they can't.
Thought I dont think innocent Japanese citizens should pay for what the Japanese goverment do or don't do regarding these text books that forget to mention some of the terrible things Japan did in the past. Glad Howl's Moving Castle is doing well though |
