A "What are you Watching Now" for anime music.
To start off... Although Kuragehime/ Princess Jellyfish's Opening theme gets most of the show's attention thanks to it's great western parodies in it's animation, musically I'm completely in love with the Ending theme: "Kimi no Kirei ni Kizuite Okure" (Realize You're Beautiful) by Sambomaster and when you listen to the full song you find it's even more unexpectedly inventive and strange than the ninety seconds implies: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Tj8RkQxwSTA A lot of emotion in those lyrics that come through even though I don't actually understand them. I'm also a sucker for a raspy unconventional voice. |

Not really current, but the last anime I watched that captivated me with its opener is Sengoku Basara.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hWoqBVEqNWo The fact that they purposely choreographed the soldiers to dance with the song seems.. cool. Not to mention it's a catchy piece of J-Pop-Rock. |

i love pretty much all the ops and eds in the anime Aria, and I've been listening to the songs by ClariS who recently featured in Oreimo. Can't wait until they release another album~

Right now, I'm enjoying the combination of fiddling and rock that make up the music to Fairy Tail. Sorta like Nightwish with other cultural accents and very little singing outside of the opening and closing songs. It's like Ireland by way of American rock, with full Japanese flavor. And there's something different for every character! The main male character, Natsu, has a theme that is very snake-charmer without being corny. Lucy, the main female character, has a very sea-faring theme with acoustic guitar, accordion, and violin. Below is the main theme.

Back on my Feet--Xam'd: Lost Memories opening 2. Been the only song I've been jamming to(besides the 2nd ED for the same show) for about a week now.

"Light Prayer" by School Food Punishment from The ending to Eden of the East - "King of Eden". I like the energy and the instrumentaion. The bass line is cool.

Since the news of Revolutionary Girl Utena is being re-released again I took out the sound track music collection and have been listening to that great OP song. Those images of roses are really something else.

The Spring season had a bunch of themes I liked, right now I'm into the theme to the gag anime Honto ni Atta! Reibai Sensei
"pair*" by メーウ(Starchild? Meaw?) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BVglLeAgdUY Nice laid-back electronica with a good beat, I guess it's a new vocaloid?. Sounds like something Susumu Hirasawa would compose for a Satoshi Kon film. |
