So how bad was this red tint, anyway? Is it a problem for all Spirited Away DVDs period? I haven't bought a copy yet, but it's on my wish list. It would be a pity if normal copies aren't available.

The North American DVD release did not have the red tint. Its only a problem with the Japanese version...

Unfortunately the Japanese version has what appears to be a direct-digital transfer, while the US disc is a telecine. Far superior image resolution on the Japanese disc.

Of course, we're not eligable for replacements, boo

I would of bet you'd say Miramax. But since you didn't, I will:

I wonder if that includeswith Miramax.

I don't know if this has been explaned, but why was it red? Did Disney mean to do that or was it an accident?

While it is true that a red tint would improve the look at a 9300 color temp, I don't see why they would tint it just for that, since any Plasma worth buying has adjustable color temps anyway, or at least standard presets of 9300 and 6550. It doesn't make much sense to force everyone else to adapt to the red tint. It would look horrible at 6550.

There are quite a number of small plasmas that have proven very popular in Japan that are locked at 9300 if I recall correctly

Still, not everyone has a plasma, although I guess it also isn't practical to release a "9300 Plasma" version DVD.

How is disney raping your childhood? Unless you're still a child, that doesn't make sense. Just don't watch the videos, and you won't be bothered with it.

Anyways, its really weird that they even considered doing this. Disney should be giving a better explination of the reasoning behind this. And they should apply the rebate to US stuff too.

I don't think the home video sequals are getting enough attention that it's anything to complain about. The Star Wars prequals are much bigger than them. I don't really mind the prequals, I haven't seen episode 1 in a while and I've only seen 2 twice. And about the CG edits in 4, 5, and 6, I still got my thanks VHS copy, so I'm happy. Smile

Why didn't Disney release two kinds of DVDs? One normel version and one special addition. They could of cherged more for it anyway.

Yes, but Disney edits their old stuff, too. They've digitally edited scenes of characters smoking and left out whole segments of the 1940's package films if they were considered "objectionable". And that's not even getting into the ultimate blasphemy of changing even one frame of Fantasia (*prays that the Platinum Edition will be unedited*). I bet they'd even try to cut the Pleasure Island sequence out of Pinocchio if it wasn't integral to the plot.

You know, they've never released Song of the South (remembered primarily for the song Zip-i-dee-doo-dah) due to theoretically racist/derogatory imagery in the first few minutes? Something about all the black people on the plantation seeming spectacularly bright and cheerful for apparently being slaves, but that part I haven't been able to confiirm personally.

And yeah, alot of their old Mickey Mouse, Donald Duck, and Goofey cartoons had some elements that wouldn't fly over today.


Anybody seen American World War 2 civilian animation? Sort of creepy at times, how blatant the stereotypes were.
