So let me get this straight they seek to be a able to go after the people who put ads on these websites. That's one way to try to hit them. I'm sure google ads couldn't have been to happy with this idea

It is a lot worse than that, your tax dollars hard at work eroding your rights.

Free anime, and manga is not a right, free video games are not a right, learn to support the creation of content instead of stealing it.

True but how can people support it and have no work. I have done EVERYTHING to get a job for over a year and a half since graduating college. Finally though I am going to be making money by doing taxes. But just think of all these graduates who did have a job and now are unemployed or those who are in my situation. A fraction love anime but since they have no income their only option is to download it. Don't get me wrong I with you, I buy when I have the means to do so, but downloading is their only why if they don't have one friend to borrow or to buy.

Don't worry, this wouldn't stop piracy anyway.

At worst it further delegitimizes the USA as the proper host for the main root, due to more blatant policy games even though right now domains may be seized, and pushes towards a distributed resolution system instead while simultaneously not stopping piracy because those sites can still be reached anyway via alternate roots or by just using ip addresses.

Seems as if it would be more likely to hurt legitimate operations rather than illegal operations but the *AAs have always gone with the "everything is a nail" approach.

I can understand that, theirs a ton of anime series I would love to buy, but can't since I can't budget the money for it I don't get them until I have the money. Personally I don't care about people like that, the problem I have is the people who have nothing but excuses like how anime is a right, or shutting down websites that are solely used for pirating other people's works is "censorship".

People claim that some great new era is upon us but they refuse to say what that era is, they only care about their own beliefs, their own theories and refuse to do the research. We are seeing what happens when piracy is rampant, profits go down, and content decreases. They refuse to acknowledge it because it goes against the "internet is a perfect creation" that causes them to dismiss anything that goes against that belief.

On a related Megacorp deciding what's free speech note, Concast is already trying to extort Netflix. Feel free to sign a petition to the FCC for net neutrality.

If its one thing the politicians in Congress are real good when it comes to being "bi-partisan", its taking away your rights. They have already done so with the PATRIOT and PROTECT ACT. With incoming bills such as COICA and ACTA(with ACTA being negotiated in secret with several nations), it won't be too long before big brother watches every bit of your moves(Google already does this, now imagine leaving it in the hands of the Federal government).

Yes, I second this. We all know that downloading licensed Anime/Manga/Comics/Roms/Isos are not within our "Free Speech" rights.

It pains me to see Manga shelves in Borders and Barnes & Nobles decrease in size. I know that the state of the industry is ugly. But COICA won't do much justice for the Anime/Manga industry.

Remember when the American and Japanese publishers formed their union? I have yet to see a single website shut down forcibly by Federal/state agencies(OM chose to voluntarily shut down, only to link directly to Manga sites such as MF). It seems that FBI and Federal government are more interested in protecting US goods than they are about foreign products. Ed Chaves from Verticle said so himself.

The only way the Anime/Manga industry could make a comeback is if Japanese Anime/Manga companies paid more attention to its market outside its borders and developed stronger ties with Anime distributors/Manga publishers in the U.S and around the world. For example, why can't JP Geneon and Aniplex form a partnership with FUNimation to market their titles vigorously?

Why can't the Japanese Anime/Manga companies brand their goods in the way Hello kitty, Metal Gear Solid, the Mario series are(which originate from Japan)?

I'd say its about time the Japanese Anime & Manga companies paid more attention to the market outside its borders. If they desire to see piracy dwindle, they have a lot of work to do. They have to keep in mind that Anime/Manga is no longer their nation's medium; its become global entertainment(or at least consumed globally).

I kinda think that might be part of the point. But hey, at least he's getting it put on hold for now. Makes me glad he's earning my vote.

The only way thats going to happen is when the Japanese Companies decide to pull their heads out of their collective rears and start looking around. Same goes for the US distributors as well. They need to be more aggressive with the copyright holders and bitch slap them rather than just meekly obeying their commands.

Also, here is another idea: STOP PISSING OFF THE FANS.

Don't call them thieves. Give them incentives to buy stuff (hello, Negima OAV DVD's with the comparative volumes when now in the USA? Missed three right now!!). Beat the scanlators by simultaneous releases in Japan AND the USA. Price them to blow off the shelves.

Just STOP PISSING OFF THE FANS.

If they can do this why can't they shut down websites that has movies available to download?

This bill means the government and corporation can monitor and censor the internet the way they see fit.

I'm sorry, but something about that didn't jell with me. It sounds like an excuse: "I can't get it legally, but I have to get it some way!" Fansubs and anime downloading shouldn't be alternatives to buying anime. If you can't afford it yet, wait until you can. Save a little "me" money. Or ask people. You have a birthday, don't you? Wink Don't be afraid to ask for what you want for once instead of what you need. (FYI, I've done college and unemployment. I get it.)

When anime studios spend millions of dollars each year producing shows, they're not doing it for fun. They expect to make their money back and then some. Piracy hurts that plan. If they don't make money, they don't make anime. Simple as that.

I agree 100%. But you know what one problem is? Dub hate. If people don't learn to accept dubs, things will stay like this. These companies notice what works and what doesn't, and they don't always learn from their mistakes. Instead, they assume anime isn't catching on and it's not worth it to invest in the American market. So should the industry shift to subs-only releases? If they want to make some money, but dubs have much larger profit potential than subs.
