I try to add enlightening commentary, but let's face it:
I'm far from perfect.

    EDIT: 2020-12-31
I have seen two three videos that examine the concept of "classics" from distinctly different perspectives:
  1. Gigguk | Garnt Maneetapho

  2. Mother's Basement | Geoff Thew

  3. Bonsai Pop | Mike ?
EDIT: 2020-04-11
In this video YouTube user Gigguk (Garnt Maneetapho) talks about SAO in the context of gateway anime.

Seen/Read All (public list) Rating
I''s Pure (OAV) Good
I'm Quitting Heroing (TV) Masterpiece
  1. ranking/voting
  2. No dub as of 2022-6-30
  3. The reason that I rated this at 11/11 (Masterpiece) is because of the evolution of the character of Leo as shown through the flashbacks and internal monologues.
I've Been Killing Slimes for 300 Years and Maxed Out My Level (TV) Masterpiece (dub & sub)
  • Enjoyable as long as you don't take it too seriously......
  • On the other hand, when the rabbit girl sang at that venue, I did cry.
In This Corner of the World (movie) Masterpiece (dub & sub)

  • Was Christmas REALLY a thing in 1933 Japan? (Con)
  • In spite of the aforementioned con, I am rating this at 11/11 because of the tragedy.
  • The dub is remarkably good.....
Interlude (OAV) Good
Inuyasha (TV) Decent
InuYasha: The Final Act (TV) Decent
InuYasha: The Tragic Love Song of Destiny (special) Good
Is It Wrong to Try to Pick Up Girls in a Dungeon? (TV) Very good
Jin-Roh - The Wolf Brigade (movie) Masterpiece
"a must-see classic"

When a paramilitary security officer sees a girl commit suicide he becomes a pawn in an internecine game of office politics where nothing is what it seems to be at first.

Joran: The Princess of Snow and Blood (TV) Good

The OP & ED are great! The OST is nice, as well.
  1. Seemingly en media res. Definitely non-linear. The animation is interesting ─ presumably more will be revealed to show the significance of the different art styles.
  2. Flashbacks and treachery are the themes of this episode and possibly of the entire series.
  3. Treachery in spades. When even Elena Hanakaze accepts ─ at a certain level ─ that she will be dying much sooner than later, then you know that the death count hasn't reached the ½ point.
  4. Episode #5 better deliver the promised payoff! 9/11
  5. And the death count continues apace.....
  1. Well, that peaceful interlude sure didn't last long.....
  2. This is ridiculous. When death is rendered meaningless you get a deux ex machina. Also, with the death of Makoto Tsukishiro every plot element attached to them goes up in smoke,3/11
  3. So supposedly Makoto Tsukishiro left a manuscript behind. Yeah, right! I'll believe that when I see it. Right now I'm only continuing this until the end to see just what kind of a farce it becomes. 6/11
  4. So we are given the backstory of Jin Kuzuhara. Whatever. 6/11
  5. So now Asahi Nakamura is brought back from the dead via another deus ex machina. Childbirth and death; that doesn't redeem deus ex machina. Nice try, though. 6/11
  6. I'll give them props for the open-ended ending; but it's still not enough to counter the multiple deus ex machinas that occurred. Because of the music I will rate this at 8/11.
Josee, The Tiger and the Fish (movie) Masterpiece (dub & sub)
The dub does its job.
The animation is impressive!
Read the Eisenbreis review.
Judge (OAV) Masterpiece (dub & sub)
  • It seems to me that certain parallels can be made with Death Note. Just realize, though, that the protagonist does not have Light Yagami's arrogance.....
  • I found the English dub to be satisfactory. The graphics are representative of the early '90s.
  • I have changed my rating because of the discussion between the two main characters at the end of the OVA. I must remember to elaborate on this, but now I must go to sleep.....
Junkers Come Here (movie) Excellent (dub & sub)
It's not quite good enough to rate as a Masterpiece (11/11); but plenty good enough to rate as being at 10/11! I was surprised by just how good the ending is!
K (TV) Masterpiece (dub & sub)
