Baccano! (TV) | Masterpiece | Set on a train in the 1930's heading to New York, groups of seemingly unrelated people get mixed up in a disaster that leaves bodies scattered for a 20 mile stretch as the train goes along. With multiple time lines that flow together and connect in unpredictable ways, this is a brilliant story that twists and turns like no other, and ties up beautifully in the end. |
Code Geass: Lelouch of the Rebellion (TV) | Masterpiece | When Leloush gains a power that might eventually free Japan from the tyrannic rule of Brittania, he decides that it is his right - his responsibility - to use it to full advantage and obliterate Brittania - and gain his revenge. The line between good and evil blurs in ways that really make you question which side you should root for and why. The main characters ingenious stratagems and the plots numerous unpredictable twists make it thoroughly enjoyable and utterly riveting. One of the greatest animes out there. |
Code Geass: Lelouch of the Rebellion R2 (TV) | Masterpiece | The sequel to Code Geass, it displays yet more of the plot twists and ompossible problems of the first season. This season is heavily charged with emotion that was less prevalent in the first season, and it doesn't disappoint. A completely unexpected, yet somehow perfect ending ties up one of the greatest animes of all time. |
Darker than Black (TV) | Excellent | 10 years ago, the sky dissappeared to be replaced by fake stars. At the same time Hell's Gate appeared, creating a dead zone in the middle of Tokyo. Hei is a contracter, a race created after the dissappearance of the sky, a group of creatures that can only have rational thoughts, who lack concience, and human empathy. But Hei is different. Sometimes he feels...something. A dark show with some really great comedy intersperced (and some really wierd stuff too). It really takes you deep into the human soul, and how right and wrong can sometimes be the same. Mysteries, action, and many-layered characters lend this show great strength, along with some interesting original ideas that fire up the imagination. |
Death Note (TV) | Masterpiece | This is undoubtably the most brilliant anime i have ever seen. #1. Unquestionably. Following Light's descent from model student into the world-wide terror and mass-murderer Kira is riveting on it's own, but when you add the spectacular battle of wits between Light and L, full of unexpected twists and turns... well, there's nothing in the world like it. If you only ever watch one anime - you'll deeply regret it if it's not this one. |
Durarara!! (TV) | Masterpiece
Fullmetal Alchemist (TV) | Excellent | Bringing humans back to life is the ultimate taboo. But brothers Edward and alphonse Elric are young and desperate. They pay the ultimate price - ed loses an arm and a leg, and al loses his whole body. They don't get their mother back. Years latert, they desperately seek the one alchemical tool that might restore their bodies... but they are not the only ones searching. Dark and emotional with characters that grip you and make you connect deeply to the story, it is full of twists that will make you hair curl (or straighten) and a conspiracy that will make your whole body quiver, and some things you'll never forget... |
(The) Garden of Sinners (movie series) | Masterpiece
Ouran High School Host Club (TV) | Excellent | Set in a rich kids high school host club, which, by a series of unfortunate accidents, lands poor scholarship student Haruhi as one of its members - except that she's a girl. A hysterical comedy that will really lighten your mood in dark times, it's a piece of fluff that's just plain enjoyable. Not deep, or dark, or thought provoking - just fun. |
Skip Beat! (TV) | Excellent | Kyoko is head over heels for her childhood freind Sho, who brought her to Tokyo with him to persue his dream, but when Kyoko learns that Sho has only been using her, she vows her revenge. Taking a twist on the normal romance stories, fun for all can be had by following Kyoko's hysterical adventures. |
