The Click
November 4th - November 10th

by Brian Hanson,

Good day, folks! I'm back with another go at this whole "internet column" thing, chock full of lists and words and letters comprising all the new hotness and old mildness littering the TV landscape for the coming week. CAUTION: All dates and times are tentative and are Eastern. Taking these listings literally while residing in Central, Pacific, or (God forbid) Mountain time zones without vigorously checking your local listings may result in confusion, anger, and sadness.

I should probably mention some of the changes going on here in Click-land. In an effort to lessen the time constraints writing this thing has caused on my regular schedule of sentencings and court-appointed treatments, the listings for the piny north of Canada have been pared down. I've managed to squeeze in all the premieres for the week, but unfortunately all of the repeats had to be cut. Don't worry though, my editors are working diligently with both my parole officer(s) and myself to, in the future, keep every Canadian TV anime listing fresh and up to snuff.

Special mentions go out to Jesse and Kasuya, for pointing out the R.O.D -The TV- and New Fist of the North Star airings, respectively. Hollas and hi-fives!

Eureka 7
(Cartoon Network)
Sunday November 5 12:30am - Episode 28 "Momento Mori" (Repeats Sun Nov 5 3:30am)

Oh crap; there aren't any odd, decades old OAVs airing at five in the morning on the Encore Action Channel! What on earth will I recommend?!?

For a change of pace, I guess, I might as well spotlight Eureka 7, a show I've been watching off and on since its premiere last April that has officially hooked me in as of last month. It's the type of show that doesn't immediately grab you due to it not being terribly groundbreaking or unique, nor does it contain scads of fanservice or swishy, effeminate men with dark, dark secrets and the like. Instead, it takes a few weeks for its vice-like grip to slowly clamp down, gradually hooking you in with its well-written stable of characters, clean animation, and interesting story.

This week: Ray seeks vengeance upon the Gekkō, and Renton and Holland share some words that brings some clarity between the relationship betwixt the bitter captain and Eureka. Or, Ehh-Ooh-Rekk-ah.

PREMIERES:

Basilisk
(Razer)
Thursday November 9 5:30pm - Episode 19 "Conspiracy" (Repeats Fri Nov 10 12:30am)

Y'know that ninja anime show that's really popular? Well, this isn't that one. This is the other one. In this dark, foreboding episode of adults-only ninja action, the warring clans learn of the political machinations at work keeping the two at war.

Bleach
(Cartoon Network)
Sunday November 5 12:00am - Episode 9 (Repeats Sun Nov 5 3:00am)

Ichigo delves deep into his issue-laden psyche to discover the truth behind his mother's death, and finds the culprit behind the ordeal to be none other than a Hollow; specifically, a Hollow that has avoided capture by the Soul Society for some 50 years. This sorta makes Ichigo a bit mad and he decides to use his newly acquired Soul Reaper powers to slay the villainous foe.

(YTV)
Friday November 10 10:30pm - Episode 10

Lightening the mood from the previous episode, Ichigo runs afoul of the goofily-dressed Don Kan'onji, an eccentric TV personality with a penchant for exorcisms. Then a Hollow shows up and just ruins everything.

Bobobo-bo Bo-bobo
(Cartoon Network)
Saturday November 4 10:00pm - Episode 49 "The Battle of Brains Begins"

Bo-Bobo is back! Finally! After some two months or so of pre-emptions, my favorite cross-dressing, fro-wearing, Shonen Jump hero returns for more alliterative fun. This week: Bologna sandwiches!

Eureka 7
(YTV)
Friday November 10 9:30pm - Episode 9 "Paper Moon Shine"

The gang from the Gekkōstate arrive at the war-torn Ciudades Del Cielo, Renton and Holland exchange some unpleasantries, and then a military bombing happens and just ruins everything.

Fullmetal Alchemist
(YTV)
Friday November 10 10:00pm - Episode 36 "The Sinner Within"

In this week's revelatory episode of FMA, Ed and Al do some digging through the military's dirty secrets and uncover the startling truth about the Ishbalan rebellion, and the death of Winry's parents. Dark, dark stuff.

Inuyasha
(YTV)
Friday November 10 9:00pm - Episode 164 "Possessed by a Parasite: Shippo, Our Worst Enemy"

Not so dark stuff! The normally-lovable Shippo is infected by a demon parasite, and begins attacking his friends in increasingly un-cute ways.

Kirby: Right Back At Ya!
(4KidsTV)
Saturday November 4 8:00am - Episode 102 "Frog Wild"

4Kids continues to burn through old episodes of Kirby that have been sitting on the shelf for years, but never received the televised airing they (maybe) deserved. In this one, in a plot TOTALLY UNLIKE the one described above, Kirby is possessed by a frog demon and really starts to chap the hides of the residents of Cappytown.

Naruto
(Cartoon Network)
Saturday November 4 9:00pm - Episode 57 "He Flies! He Jumps! He Lurks! Chief Toad Appears!"

Naruto finally gets the Summoning Jutsu right, except for the fact that the toad he'd summoned doesn't seem terribly pleased with Naruto himself and refuses Naruto's generous offer to be utterly subjugated. Unless, of course, the orange-clad lad can stay put on the giant toad's back for an entire day.

(YTV)
Friday November 10 8:00pm - Episode TBA

There's probably a new episode in Canada this week. Can I speak with all certainty? No. But I'm sure if you actually have YTV, which I obviously don't, it's very easy to find out.

New Fist of the North Star
(Showtime Beyond)
-Wednesday November 8 8:00pm - Episode 1 "The Cursed City"
-Wednesday November 8 9:00pm - Episode 2 "The Forbidden City" (Repeats Fri Nov 10 8:00pm)

Fist of the North Star provides exactly what TV these days is sorely lacking: giant, burly men squawking "ATATATATATATATA!" while punching some fifteen times per second until their opponent explodes into a fountain of blood and meat chunks. If that does not excite you in some primitive fashion, I pity you.

Oban Star-Racers
(Toon Disney)
Monday November 6 9:00pm - Episode 20 "Secret Like Sul" (Repeats Tue Nov 7 1:30am, Fri Nov 10 9:00pm, Sat Nov 11 1:30am)

For the younger set, Oban undoubtedly continues its streak of quality with this episode that I, nor anybody else, have seen, save of course those working diligently on the series itself.

Pokémon
(Cartoon Network)
-Saturday November 4 9:00am - Episode 433 "Spontaneous Combusken" (Repeats Fri Nov 10 5:00pm)
-Saturday November 4 9:30am - Episode 434 "Cutting the Ties That Bind" (Repeats Fri Nov 10 5:30pm)
-Friday November 10 6:00pm - Episode 435 "Ka Boom With a View"
-Friday November 10 6:30pm - Episode 436 "King and Queen for a Day"

Oy gevalt! That's more new Pokémon episodes in one short week than most people can conceivably handle. Does moderation apply anywhere these days? Anyway: May battles for her third ribbon, Ash unleashes a newly trained Pokémon at the aptly-named Battle Palace, and Team Rocket's Pokémon take a brief - but deadly - hiatus from their villainous trainers.

R.O.D. the TV
(G4TechTV Canada)
-Monday November 6 8:30pm - Episode 1 "The Papers Have Landed"
-Tuesday November 7 8:30pm - Episode 2 "Rise Up, Oh Dregs of Mankind"
-Wednesday November 8 8:30pm - Episode 3 "Let's Meet in Jinbo-Cho"
-Thursday November 9 8:30pm - Episode 4 "The 7th Grade Course"
-Friday November 10 8:30pm - Episode 5 "They Make Noises"

I'll be honest - when I received the e-mail stating how R.O.D -The TV- was totally starting on G4 this Monday, my first thought was "Again? At least they're finally putting anime back on the rotation." Then I actually read some of the surrounding text, and made the astonishing discovery that there is a G4TechTV Canada. Honestly, I feel a bit sorry for you Canadians - out of all the possible exports our country could provide, we choose a network full of Maxim Magazine rejects shilling Madden '07 and making fun of the same fifteen video game nerds that actually watch their shows on a regular basis. Nonetheless, a small sparkle of quality is on the grim horizon, as ROD TV makes its grand Canadian debut. Watch it, but don't expect anything like the wonderfully over-the-top OAV series released some years ago. This is a different beast, with a different cast of colorful characters encountering villains and struggling through daily life.

Saiyuki Reload
(Encore Action)
-Wednesday November 8 12:00am - Episode 1 "Run" (R Wed Nov 8 12:00pm)
-Wednesday November 8 12:30am - Episode 2 "Wanted Dead or Alive" (Repeats Wed Nov 8 12:30pm)
-Wednesday November 8 1:00am - Episode 3 "Lethal Weapon" (Repeats Wed Nov 8 1:00pm)
-Thursday November 9 12:00am - Episode 4 "Negative Energy" (Repeats Thu Nov 9 12:00pm)
-Thursday November 9 12:30am - Episode 5 "Voice" (Repeats Thu Nov 9 12:30pm)
-Thursday November 9 1:00am - Episode 6 "Sad Memory" (Repeats Thu Nov 9 1:00pm)
-Friday November 10 12:00am - Episode 7 "Little Will" (Repeats Fri Nov 10 12:00pm)
-Friday November 10 12:30am - Episode 8 "Poison" (Repeats Fri Nov 10 12:30pm)
-Friday November 10 1:00am - Episode 9 "Self Defense" (Repeats Fri Nov 10 1:00pm)

New show! Why didn't it make my Click Pick bit? Because, at the risk of editorializing somewhat, I'm not particularly crazy about any of the Saiyuki series. Nonetheless, this is a new show and such, you should probably check it out - television is great for things like that, allowing one to sample bits and pieces from all kinds of anime they would otherwise not legally be entitled to viewing without a thirty dollar investment on a DVD.

Samurai 7
(Razer)
Thursday November 9 5:00pm - Episode 19 "The Mutiny" (Repeats Fri Nov 10 12:00am)

Kambei's brief visit with the Emperor has landed the poor sap in prison, while all kinds of turmoil and chaos surrounds the Capital with Ukyo caught dead center.

Trinity Blood
(Cartoon Network)
Saturday November 4 11:30pm - Episode 9 "Overcount I: The Belfry of Downfall" (Repeats Sun Nov 5 2:30am)

Abel, shaken from his last mission in Barcelona, turns in his badge and gun. Meanwhile, those crazy Vatican types could sure use Abel's help, as serious help is needed to prevent the foreignly-named Rosen Kreuz group from turning Rome into rubble using a mysterious secret weapon.

(Razer)
Thursday November 9 6:00pm - Episode 19 "The Night Lords V: A Start of Pilgrimage" (Repeats Fri Nov 10 1:00am)

A veritable Empire hangs in the balance, as a constant string of mistaken identities and all-around things-not-being-what-they-seem-isms collide with Abel running around trying to make things right.

Yu-Gi-Oh! Capsule Monsters
(4KidsTV)
Saturday November 4 9:00am - Episode 9 "The Fiendish Five, Part 1"

Desperate to keep their careers and expensive yachts afloat, the Yu-Gi-Oh! crew arrives in a kingdom ruled by dragons known as the Fiendish Five.

Yu-Gi-Oh! GX
(Cartoon Network)
Saturday November 4 7:30pm - Episode 79 "Mirror, Mirror, Part 2"

This week: the events covered in "Mirror, Mirror, Part 1" are concluded! God, I love it when these things just write themselves...

Zatch Bell
(Cartoon Network)
Saturday November 4 9:30pm - Episode 70 "The Four Supreme Mamodo"

Zatch and Kiyo and a helpin' of his Mamodo friends rush into the ruins controlled by the evil Zofis, and each square off against a different opponent. Because it's too expensive to animate every character on screen at once.

(YTV)
Friday November 10 8:30pm - Episode 44 "Invitation to a Duel"

As Zatch's many victories begin to pile up, word spreads throughout the close-knit Mamodo community, prompting a trip to Japan by a particularly nasty Mamodo named Bali. The Mamodo, not the small Indonesian island.

MOVIES/SPECIALS

Pokémon: Destiny Deoxys
(Cartoon Network)
Sunday November 5 9:00am

Pokémon: Jirachi Wish Maker
(Cartoon Network)
Wednesday November 8 11:30am

In case you simply can't have enough Pokémon in your day, Cartoon Network's got you covered. They've got two whole hours of new episodes, approximately eight full hours worth of reruns, and now some movies! There's probably more Pokémon on the air this week than the series had even during its heyday, when all those stories of kids holding each other at slingshot-point for Pokémon cards were the local TV news sensation.

Steamboy
(Encore WAM)
Monday November 6 10:00am (Repeats Mon Nov 6 7:40pm)

(Encore)
Tuesday November 7 9:20am

Black Magic M-66
(Encore Action)
Tuesday November 7 12:00am

Karas: The Prophecy
(Encore Action)
Friday November 10 3:10pm

For those not so Pokémon-inclined, Encore Action has plenty of older-skewing stuff that you've probably seen before. Or not, in the case of Steamboy. Because it was a huge financial disaster. You jerks.

I'm officially out for the rest of the week, but I'll be back with tentatively tons of new stuff! Plus material recycled from previous columns, but dressed up with nineteenth-century phrases to make you think its new! Down below: the NOT new!
