Exclusive Song to Feature in Manga Movie 'Angel Sign'

Tokyo, Japan - Wednesday, 2nd October 2019. For Immediate Release

Manga movie “Angel Sign” to feature an original theme song, written and performed by the film's two lead stars.

Chasing A Butterfly (ft., Nao Matsusita), written by Japanese musician and actor Dean Fujioka is the perfect accompaniment to this pioneering event in film history… the Silent Manga movie Angel Sign.

Taking inspiration from his character “Takaya” in the movie, Fujioka approached the composition with the thought “If Takaya had created one final song, what would that song be?”

“I want to evoke the feeling, that even when you die, you will still be thinking of the people you love. I created this song to symbolize the themes of love in the movie. Emotions that all the film's characters experience” he added.

Nao Matsushita, co-star of Angel Sign, will be lending her voice and piano to the piece. An accomplished musician in her own right, the actor approached the song in a similar way by channelling her onscreen character, “I put the emotions Akita has for Tanaka into my performance.”

As Angel Sign features no dialogue, music plays a key role in building up emotion as the film progresses. The evocative harmony of Matsushita's piano playing, coupled with Fujioka's emotion laden lyrics featured in Chasing A Butterfly (ft., Nao Matsusita), perfectly accompanies this “silent” movie about miracles.

With the theme song featuring on the current movie trailer, audiences have already had their first taste of Chasing A Butterfly (ft., Nao Matsusita). Not only do we see Matsushita's cellist “Aika” and Fujioka's pianist “Takaya” perform onscreen, the trailer also features several well-known Japanese acting talents, including Naoto Ogata, Momoko Kikuchi and Jirō Satō, along with a stellar international cast.

“If Takaya had created one final song, what would that song be? This question was my starting point. I want to evoke the feeling, that even when you die, you will still be thinking of the people you love. I created this song to symbolize the themes of love in the movie. Emotions that all the film's characters experience. Chasing a Butterfly features my costar Nao Matsushita, who was a joy work with both on screen and in the studio. I hope the song succeeds in linking all 6 love stories, just like the ‘Blue Butterfly’ featured.”

DEAN FUJIOKA (Takaya)

“Dean-san wrote the music and lyrics, so I was very happy to work with him on this song. When I first it, I couldn't get the melody out of my head, as before I know it, I was singing. It's a beautiful song that could only come from Dean-san. When we recorded the piano piece for the song, I put the emotions Akita has for Tanaka into my performance. It was quite difficult at first, but as Dean-san recoded his parts first, I felt I could let loose and go along with the song.”
