The Club That Really Likes Anime 20th Anniversary Celebration at the University of Waterloo
Saturday October 27, 2012
WATERLOO, Ont. (Saturday Oct. 27, 2012) –
The University of Waterloo's Club That Really Likes Anime is celebrating its twentieth year with public screenings of anime dedicated to the history and growth of the anime culture. It will be held Saturday Oct. 27 at 12 noon until midnight in the Arts Lecture Hall at the heart of campus. Anime ranging from the famous to the niche, this event will include cosplay cafe, games, anime-themed activities, contests, music, food, and family-friendly fun. For more information, please visit ctrl-a.org or follow “CTRL-A” on Facebook. Open to the public, and free admission.
CTRL-A acknowledges its roots in the anime showing culture- though anime is more accessible than ever in today's digital age, the desire to share the enthusiasm for the culture with others has never waned. "While CTRL-A was created to promote and serve interest in anime, over the years, like the general culture around anime, [the club] has grown and expanded to encompass many more subcultures,” says Jonathan Lai, current president of the club. “We hope to present and promote not only anime, but all these subcultures during our celebrations, bridging the gap between our beginning 20 years ago, and the present."
About
Dubbed “CTRL-A,” the Club That Really Likes Anime has been a cultural mainstay in the Kitchener-Waterloo region since its formation in 1991, and continues to demonstrate and encourage the passion of local anime fans, locally and internationally. Primarily a social club, there are a variety of events centered around promoting the Japanese anime subculture, such as showings, gaming nights, club projects, hotpot, karaoke, and cosplay contests.
