GENIUS PARTY is a collection of seven short animated films from Studio 4.C-the people who put out "The Animatrix." They call it "Genius Party" for a reason. Directed by Atsuko Fukushima, Shōji Kawamori, Shinji Kimura, Yoji Fukuyama, Hideki Futamura, Masaaki Yuasa, and Shinichiro Watanabe.
We are expecting GENIUS PARTY BEYOND to be screened at the NYTFGP2008 Festival Part Two.
NYT conducted an interview with animator Kōji Morimoto, whose wide portfolio includes work on the project teams "Akira", "Animatrix", "Magnetic Rose", "Tekkon Kinkreet", Ken Ishii's "EXTRA" music video, and others. Although his work was released under GENIUS PARTY BEYOND, his views reflect on the feeling of the project in its entirety.
NYT: How did you get involved with "Genius Party"?
KM: A couple years ago, I was talking with Eiko Tanaka (Studio 4.c's president) about what we should make next, as usual. We were discussing how we'd like to make a carnival in which chaos is sprouting out - a rave where the creators themselves are participating as well.
See the rest of the interview with director Morimoto here.
Todays' trivia might win you and a guest one of five free movie pass to see GENIUS PARTY. Respond to [email protected] with your name., age, and affiliation. Contest ends noon tomorrow, EST. Official rules here.
