Ookiku Furikabutte wins Kodansha's Manga Award

31st Annual Kodansha Manga Awards announced Wednesday
Japanese publishing giant Kodansha announced the results of their 31st Annual Manga Awards on Wednesday. Winners will be honored at a ceremony on June 21st at the Grand Prince Hotel Akasaka in Tokyo's Chiyoda Ward. The grand prize winner receives 1 million yen (about US$90,000).
The grand prize went to Asa Higuchi's baseball-themed manga Ookiku Furikabutte. A television anime series based on the series is currently running on TBS network affiliates across Japan.
Other award winners are as follows:
Best Children's Manga: Etsushi Ogawa, Tenshi no Furaipan (The Angel's Frying Pan)
Best Shōnen Manga: Kōji Kumeta, Sayonara Zetsubō Sensei (Farewell, Forlorn Teacher) and Hiroki Yagami, Dear Boys Act II
Best Shōjo Manga: Chiyo Rokuhana, I.S.
