Evangelion: Death (True)² is the 1998 version of a recap film, summarising the original 1995 Neon Genesis Evangelion TV series. From the cinema's website:

"Functioning as both a recap and a partial reimagining of the TV series, the film condenses the series' key events into a nonlinear, fragmented format, blending newly animated sequences with existing footage to provide a more abstract, psychological perspective on the characters' struggles."

Released in 1997, The End of Evangelion film provided a new ending to the TV story from the Neon Genesis Evangelion TV series in 1997. From the cinema's website:

"Two years after the end of the original series, creator Hideaki Anno returned to retell the true, definitive ending on the big screen. The result was The End of Evangelion, a bold, challenging and confrontational feature that delivered cinematic spectacle while also digging deeper than ever before into the series' psychological and emotional bedrock. It also pulled back the curtain, breaking the fourth wall to reveal the trials of those behind the scenes – most specifically Anno himself, who used the film to explore his relationship with otaku fandom and his struggles with depression."

Released in 2021, Evangelion: 3.0+1.0: Thrice Upon A Time is the fourth and final film in the Rebuild of Evangelion series, which re-envisions the series and takes it in new directions.
