posted on by Adriana Hazra
The Walt Disney Company's senior executive vice president and chief financial officer Christine McCarthy announced on Thursday that the Disney Plus streaming service has reached 73.7 million paying subscribers as of October 3 and that 18.5 million of those paying subscribers are subscribed to the Disney+ Hotstar streaming service in India.
McCarthy noted that the spike in Disney+ Hotstar subscriptions due to the upcoming Indian Premier League cricket tournament was the largest contributor to the increase in the company's subscriber base.
Disney+ Hotstar appointed Sunil Rayan as the President and Head of the company on June 20.
The Disney+ Hotstar streaming service offers access to anime titles such as Shin-chan and Doraemon.
21st Century Fox launched the Hotstar streaming service in February 2015. Disney India combined the service with its Disney+ streaming service in February 2020.
