Mari Okada's Sayonara no Asa ni Yakusoku no Hana o Kazarou Anime Film Reveals Promo Video, Cast, Story

Theme song, poster visual also revealed

The official website for P.A. Works, Showgate, and Mari Okada's Sayonara no Asa ni Yakusoku no Hana o Kazarō (Let Us Adorn the Morning of Farewells With Promised Flowers) anime film unveiled the cast, theme song, poster visual, story, and promotional video on Thursday.

rionos (Children of the Whales) will perform the ending theme song "Viātor."

The story begins with Maquia, who is from a family where all the members stop aging in their mid teens. She has no parents and, although her days are peaceful, she feels lonely. Their peace is shattered when an army invades, seeking the secret to her people's immortality. Leilia, the most beautiful girl in her clan, is taken away, and the boy Maquia has secret feelings for disappears. Maquia is able to escape, but she loses her friends and her home. Wandering alone in the forest, she finds Erial, a baby boy who has lost his parents. The story follows the changing relationship between the two as Erial grows up and Maquia does not.

The film will be the directorial debut of anime screenwriter Okada (The Anthem of the Heart, anohana). She is also writing the film's scripts at P.A. Works.

Akihiko Yoshida (NieR:Automata, Bravely Default, Final Fantasy XIV games) is credited with the original character designs. Toshiya Shinohara (A Lull in the Sea, Red Data Girl) is chief director. Yuriko Ishii (Kuromukuro, Another) is designing the characters for animation and is chief animation director. Kazuki Higashiji (Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex 2nd GIG, A Lull in the Sea) is art director, and Tomoaki Okada (Fullmetal Alchemist: The Sacred Star of Milos, Blast of Tempest) is in charge of art design and concept design. Kenji Kawai (Ghost in the Shell, Touken Ranbu: Hanamaru) is composing the music, and Kazuhiro Wakabayashi (Ghost in the Shell, Bungo Stray Dogs) is sound director.

Okada previously said that the film's story "will be about contact between people with interwoven meetings and partings. The story will depict a human drama like everyone has experienced at some point that gradually pierces the heart."

The film will open in Japan on February 24, 2018.
