Love, Chunibyo & Other Delusions! Novel Series Heads to Climax

posted on by Rafael Antonio Pineda
4th novel ships in Japan on December 22, new anime film opens on January 6

The description for the fourth volume (seen right) of Torako and Nozomi Ousaka's Chūnibyō demo Koi ga Shitai! light novel series revealed last Friday that the novel series is "heading toward its climax." The word "climax" written in the phonetic katakana alphabet is often used to signify the end of a series.

The fourth volume of the novel series is slated to ship in Japan on December 22.

Sentai Filmworks describes the original anime series adaptation of the novels:

Yuta has a problem. First, Rikka has told him that they're officially dating, but she's… a little bit delusional. There's also the fact that he used to be a little delusional himself, one of the thousands of Japanese students afflicted with “Chunibyo”, so desperate to stand out that they've literally convinced themselves that they have secret knowledge and hidden powers. Unfortunately, that's not the main part of Yuta's problem. No, the REAL problem is that, even though HE's no longer delusional, and Rikka MIGHT have been getting better, his OTHER female “friend,” Satone, his one true soul mate back when he was a chuuni, has ripped back into his life and she's still epically and truly NUTS! How bad? Let's just say that she prefers the name Sophia Ring SP Saturn VII; that she's NOT happy that her partner in Chunibyo has cut her off; and that she'll joyfully tear Yuta's real world to pieces in order to get him back in her imaginary one! “Crazy in love” gets a whole new meaning as three fantasy worlds collide in Chūnibyō demo Koi ga Shitai!

Torako launched the light novel series with illustrations by Ousaka in June 2011 with the first volume, and the third volume shipped in 2014. Kyoto Animation's KA Esuma Bunko label publishes the novels.

Kyoto Animation also produced the 12-episode Love, Chunibyo & Other Delusions! television anime series adaptation in October 2012. The Love, Chunibyo, & Other Delusions: Rikka Takanashi Version anime film then opened in Japan in September 2013, followed by the 12-episode sequel television series Love, Chunibyo & Other Delusions! -Heart Throb-, which premiered in Japan in January 2014. The novels are also inspiring Kyoto Animation's upcoming Eiga Chūnibyō demo Koi ga Shitai! Take On Me (Love, Chunibyo & Other Delusions! the Movie: Take On Me) anime film, which opens on January 6.

The franchise also inspired the Chūnibyō demo Koi ga Shitai! Lite and Chūnibyō demo Koi ga Shitai! Ren Lite net anime series, as well as the Love, Chunibyo & Other Delusions: Depth of Field - Love and Hate Theater OVA.

Sentai Filmworks released the Love, Chunibyo & Other Delusions! and Love, Chunibyo & Other Delusions! -Heart Throb- television anime series on home video, as well as the Chūnibyō demo Koi ga Shitai! Lite anime shorts. The company also announced in March that it will release the Love, Chunibyo, & Other Delusions: Rikka Takanashi Version film.
