Kadokawa's Famitsu.com website revealed on Tuesday that Compile Heart's upcoming Death end re;Quest game will ship in Japan on March 1. In addition, it revealed that Weekly Famitsu magazine will begin a serialized novel that will serve as a prequel to the game on November 16.
Compile Heart is developing the "game meets reality" RPG for the PlayStation 4.
The game centers on protagonist Arata Mizunashi (voiced by Tatsuya Tokutake), who receives an email from the girl Shiina Ninomiya (Hisako Tōjō), who was reported as missing over a year ago. Arata finds out that Shiina had never logged out from the "World's Odyssey" virtual reality MMORPG, but the game's development had been cancelled long ago. Arata sets out to rescue the girl who is stuck in the bug-ridden game.
The game's staff includes scenario-writer Makoto Kedōin (Corpse Party), character designer Kei Nanameda, and monster designers Kia Asamiya (Silent Möbius, Corrector Yui) and Yuji Kaida (Ultraman, Godzilla). Steins;Gate character designer huke will provide guest character designs. Junya Ishigaki (The Vision of Escaflowne, Macross Frontier) is credited for "summon bug" design. Gesshoku Kaigi (18if) is credited for the theme song and is also credited for sound alongside Yuki Sugiura. Ichirō Kusaka is listed as "concept adviser."
The game is part of Compile Heart's Galapagos RPG brand, which also includes Fairy Fencer F, Omega Quintet, and Fairy Fencer F: Advent Dark Force.
