Satoshi Kon adapted 1st novel into anime film

Seven Seas Entertainment announced on Monday that it has licensed Yoshikazu Takeuchi's Perfect Blue: Complete Metamorphosis and Perfect Blue: Awaken from a Dream novels. The novels are slated to ship for the first time in North America on December 12, 2017 and April 24, 2018.

Director Satoshi Kon based his 1997 Perfect Blue anime film on the first novel, Perfect Blue: Complete Metamorphosis (Perfect Blue: Kanzen Hentai). The psychological thriller focuses on pop idol Mima Kirigoe, who switches to an acting career and is haunted by a stalker, a string of murders, and questions of her own sanity. The second novel, Perfect Blue: Awaken from a Dream (Perfect Blue: Yume Nara Samete) tells a separate story that was adapted into a live-action film in 2002.

Takeuchi published the first Perfect Blue novel in 1991. He debuted the second novel under the title Yume Nara Samete...... (If This is a Dream, Wake Up) in 1995, and it was retitled Perfect Blue: Yume Nara Samete for the 2002 rerelease.
