Keisuke Itagaki to Resume Baki Manga Series
posted on by Egan Loo
2014's combined 4th/5th issue of Akita Shoten's Weekly Shōnen Champion magazine announced on Thursday that Keisuke Itagaki is resuming his Baki manga. Itagaki ended Hanma Baki, his last Baki The Grappler manga series, in August of 2012. Although he revealed in an interview immediately afterwards that he is considering resuming the story, there has not been any news until now. More details will be announced via a special interview with Itagaki in the magazine's next issue on January 9.
Itagaki's original Baki The Grappler martial arts manga ran in Akita Shoten's Weekly Shōnen Champion magazine from 1991 to 1999, followed by Baki from 1999 to 2005. Hanma Baki then ran in the same magazine from 2005 to 2012. Baki The Grappler has received several manga sequels, two television anime adaptations, and an original animation video.
Yukinao Yamauchi (Baki Gaiden - Scarface) launched Baki Gaiden: Kizuzura, a Baki The Grappler spinoff, in the inaugural issue of Bessatsu Shōnen Champion magazine last year. Still another spinoff, Baki Gaiden: Kenjin, debuted in Champion RED this year, but it went on hiatus this month.
