Garden of Words & 5 cm/s' Shinkai Makes New Anime Ad

Anime director Makoto Shinkai (Voices of a Distant Star, The Place Promised in Our Early Days, 5 Centimeters Per Second, Children Who Chase Lost Voices from Deep Below, The Garden of Words) made his second 30-second animated commercial for the construction company Taisei. The commercial follows a male engineer as he walks down the path of life, eventually leading to his construction work on the first freeway on the island nation of Sri Lanka in the Indian Ocean.
CoMix Wave Film produced the animation with Shinkai directing, storyboarding, and filming. Tasuku Emoto (Utsukushii Natsu Kirishima, Figure na Anata, GeGeGe no Nyōbō, Gekkō no Kamen) voices the main character, and Tenmon, a frequent collaborator of Shinkai, composed the music.
Shinkai has directed other ads in the past, including his first Taisei one about the Bosporus Strait Tunnel and one for The Shinano Mainichi Shimbun paper from his hometown.
CoMix Wave Film produced a previous commercial for Taisei's construction of the New Doha International Airport. However, Ushio Tazawa, not Shinkai, directed this earlier commercial:
Shinkai also made the anime short 'Dareka no Manazashi' (Someone's Gaze) for the Nomura Real Estate Group.
