Spike Lee's Oldboy Projected to Open With US$2.5 Million

Entertainment trade news source Variety reportedon Wednesday that Spike Lee's reinterpretation of Chan-wook Park's original Oldboy film is expected to open with US$2.5 million over the five-day holiday weekend. The film opened in 583 theaters across the United States on Wednesday and there are no current plans for a wider release. Production costs for Oldboy are about US$30 million.
The film had a director's cut runtime of three hours but was trimmed down to two hours. When asked about his opinion on the finished film, lead actor Josh Brolin said "I do have opinions, but it's better to bite my tongue."
The film currently has a 45% rotten rating on Rotten Tomatoes. The film has gotten mixed reviews since opening on Wednesday.
