posted on by Karen Ressler
The official website for Kodansha's Afternoon magazine announced on Wednesday that an animated promotional video for Haruko Ichikawa's Hōseki no Kuni manga will be released within the next few days. The site revealed several screenshots, designs, and storyboards for the upcoming video, which will celebrate the publication of the first volume of the manga (pictured right) on July 23. The screenshots are posted below, and the designs and and storyboards can be found at at Afternoon's website.
Ichikawa is overseeing the storyboard process for the promotional anime, and Studio Hibari will produce the video.
The manga's story takes place in the distant future, where a new life form called "hōseki" (gems) is born. The 28 gems must fight against the "tsukijin" (moon people) who want to attack them and turn them into decorations, so each gem is assigned a role such as a fighter or a medic. Phos is a gem who hopes to fight the moon people, but is given no assignment until the gems' manager asks Phos to edit a natural history magazine.
