Viz's Neon Alley to Stream Magi Anime
posted on by Crystalyn Hodgkins
North American anime licensor Aniplex of America announced at Anime Expo on Thursday that the Magi: The Labyrinth of Magic television anime series will air on Viz Media's Neon Alley service.
Magi, which adapts Shinobu Ohtaka's fantasy adventure manga, re-imagines tales from the classic story One Thousand and One Nights (also known as Arabian Nights). Director Koji Masunari (Read or Die, Welcome to THE SPACE SHOW) helmed the 25-episode anime adaptation at A-1 Pictures. Toshifumi Akai (Kokoro Connect, Sound of the Sky) served as the character designer and chief animation director, and Hiroyuki Yoshino (Accel World, Guilty Crown, My-HiME) handled the scripts. Shiro Sagisu (Bleach, Evangelion, Berserk films) composed the music.
The anime premiered in Japan in October, and Crunchyroll streamed the series as it aired. Aniplex of America announced last October that it had licensed the series. All Neon Alley shows air with an English dub.
Viz Media is releasing the original manga in North America. The manga is inspiring a sequel that is listed as "opening" this fall.
