YouTube Wins Copyright Suit Again, But Viacom Plans New Appeal
posted on by Egan Loo
U.S. District Judge Louis Stanton ruled again in Google's favor on Thursday after Viacom appealed the judge's decision to confirm "safe harbor" status for Google's YouTube streaming service. After Viacom lost an earlier copyright lawsuit against Google, the Second Circuit Court of Appeal revived the case by saying that Judge Stanton has to consider whether YouTube had or should have knowledge of copyright infringement. The judge reaffirmed that YouTube is protected by the safe harbor provisions of the Digital Millennium Copyright Act.
Viacom says that it plans to appeal the latest decision.
