The final chapter of Ritz Kobayashi and Aguri Igarashi's Saki Achiga-hen episode of side-A manga (first volume pictured at right) is revealing on Tuesday that the duo are planning a new work that will be serialized in Square Enix's Monthly Big Gangan magazine. The two creators asked fans to wait for further details to be revealed. The announcement did not mention if the new work will be a Saki tie-in.
Kobayashi and Igarashi launched Saki Achiga-hen episode of side-A in Square Enix's Monthly Shonen Gangan magazine in August 2011 as a spin-off to Kobayashi's original Saki manga. Saki Achiga-hen episode of side-A follows childhood friends Shizuno Takakamo and Ako Atarashi as they attempt to revive the mahjong club at Achiga Girl's Academy and compete against their former classmate, Nodoka. The fifth compiled volume will ship in Japan in April.
The manga inspired a 12-episode anime adaptation last year and Crunchyroll streamed the series as it aired in Japan. More special episodes were announced in June. The first aired in December, followed by the second on January 29 and two more are in the works.
Ritz Kobayashi's original Saki manga is still ongoing in Square Enix's Young Gangan magazine, although Kobayashi revealed last month that the manga is on extended hiatus due to her recent surgery.
