Jee-woon Kim 'Under Consideration' to Direct Live-Action Jin-Roh Film
posted on by Crystalyn Hodgkins
South Korean director Jee-woon Kim (The Last Stand, A Bittersweet Life, I Saw the Devil) is a candidate to be the director of a possible live-action film adaptation of Hiroyuki Okiura and Production I.G's 1999 Jin-Roh - The Wolf Brigade anime film. The film has not yet been green-lit, and a source involved in the project has noted that Kim's status as a possible director is "under consideration."
The film, written by Mamoru Oshii (Patlabor, Ghost in the Shell 2: Innocence), takes place in an alternate history of Japan, where a Special Forces team is tasked with preserving peace in Japan during a time of civil unrest. Special Forces member Kazuki Fuse witnesses a suicide bombing by a young girl, and is forced to undergo retraining within the unit. Bandai Entertainment originally released the film in North America on DVD in 2002.
