Kentucky's Sugoi-Con Hosts Nabeshin This Weekend
posted on by Crystalyn Hodgkins
The Sugoi-Con anime convention will host anime director Shinichi "Nabeshin" Watanabe as a Guest of Honor at its November 4-6 event in Ft. Mitchell, Kentucky.
Watanabe is best known for directing anime series such as Excel Saga, The Wallflower (Yamato Nadesico Shichihenge), and Puni Puni Poemy. He has also appeared as an exaggerated version of himself in many anime, including several of those directed by himself (most notably Excel Saga) and by others (Hayate the Combat Butler, Zettai Karen Children). Watanabe also famously dresses in a style mimicking that of anime character Lupin III with his hair styled in an afro.
Watanabe previously attended San Japan in Texas earlier this year.
Sugoi-Con is taking place at the Drawbridge Hotel. Other announced guests include actor and military adviser Yasuhiro Koshi (20th Century Boys, Space Battleship Yamato, SaiKano live-action films), J-pop idol group Yamato Nadeshiko, voice actors Chris Ayres, Greg Ayres, Carli Mosier, Josh Grelle, Doug Smith, and Ian Sinclair, and translator, director, and animator Jan Scott Frazier.
