The story revolves around the undefeated titular racer Zach Hugh. Hugh has raced for ten years and is the current champion of the Death Circus racing circuit. A reporter discovers the telekinetic secret behind Hugh's racing success and wonders how long the man can stay on top.
Madhouse Studios and Project Team ARgus produced the science-fiction racing anime in 1986 as part of the Neo-Tokyo anthology. Kawajiri served as director, screenplay writer, character and art designer, and animation director for the production. Katsushi Aoki (Devil May Cry, Blade) served as art director, and only a few other staff members handled mechanical design and key animation to complete the short.
This dubbed version of "Running Man" premiered on MTV's 90s animation showcase Liquid Television on October 20, 1992.
