The Anime News Network is now streaming the first two minutes of Mamoru Hosoda's anime film Summer Wars dubbed into English. The film follows a modern-day family as it faces a crisis that spans their world and a virtual world known as Oz. The distributors Funimation and GKIDS recently submitted the film for an Oscar nomination, and they have scheduled it for a week of Los Angeles County screenings to qualify for the nomination. It is also screening in several other cities in the United States between December and February. The film's English-language dub premiered in New York City on November 20.
The Japanese movie website Cinema Today began streaming a new 61-second trailer for Hybrid Deka, the sixth theatrical film from the Flash animator FROGMAN, via YouTube on Thursday. FROGMAN is best known for his Himitsu Kessha Taka no Tsume (Secret Society Eagle Talon) television and film comedy franchise, which follows a nefarious organization's bumbling attempts to take over the world. In Hybrid Deka, Eagle Talon's supreme leader leaves the secret society and becomes a detective who upholds the law and protects the weak. As he did in previous works, FROGMAN is writing, directing, animating, and voicing the project almost entirely himself. Toyota car dealers are sponsoring the free Spring 2011 theatrical run of the film in Japan.
