ICv2: 2010 N. American Anime Market Worth US$160-200 Million
posted on by Egan Loo
The retail news source ICv2 estimated that the North American anime market will have US$160 to US$200 million in sales in 2010. In its Internal Correspondence #73 publication, ICv2 cautioned that its estimates cannot be more precise because the retail store chain Walmart does not report its anime DVD sales.
ICv2 had previously calculated that the North American anime market was US$275 to US$300 million in 2007. The North American anime DVD market estimates for the five previous years are as follows:
Year | North American Anime DVD Market Size |
2002 | US$500 million |
2003 | US$550 million |
2004 | US$500 million |
2005 | US$430-460 million |
2006 | US$400 million |
ICv2 had also estimated that the North American manga market was US$140 million last year. These estimates indicate that — unlike in Japan — the anime market is still bigger than the manga market in North America.
ICv2 posted its lists of the top 10 shōjo, shōnen, and manga properties in sales during the third quarter of 2010.
